Johnson Valley & The Hammers

The Marine Corps has it's eye on Johnson Valley & The Hammer trails.
They need to expand their training area at 29 Palms.
Only two options currently spare our off road use of that area.

1) Alternative Three does not encroach on Johnson Valley.
2) Doing Nothing does not encroach on Johnson Valley.

The Marines prefer Alternative six which would allow us to use parts of Johnson Valley when they don't need it.

Details can be found and comments can be left here......

Long read.

Once the first ordinance is accidentally set off in the area, it will be the last time we see the place. It will be labeled unsafe until cleared and never clear it, there are several place like this in Nevada.

If we give an inch, the greatest wheeling area in the US will be gone forever. I support our military, but do not support this move. The enviros have prevented the military from expanding into other areas, so I guess they see the 4X4 community as easier targets.

BroncoJohn is right, once they start using it, they will not deem it safe for public use again. People occasionally find ordinance in JV left over from decades ago. A couple months ago, a guy posted a pic on pirate of a bomb he found in the bushes at JV.

Please go to the link and submit a comment. This is a huge issue for the OHV community. Please Please Please comment.

I respectfully submit that the Johnson Valley OHV area remain open to public access indefinitely, without limitation. Johnson Valley OHV is a jewel of the OHV community and has been enjoyed for generations and should be accessable for generations to come. I believe the offroad community has less of an environmental impact than any military operation conducted in the area. I also believe that our community should not agree to share the area with the U.S. Marine Corp because I believe the Marine Corp will determine that more training time will be needed to conduct exercises in Johnson Valley OHV and our right to access the land will be gone. Therefore, I petition to opt for No Action- ( No New Land).

I respect the U.S. Armed Forces and all service members for their sacrifice to uphold our freedom at home. We have the most powerful military force in the world. Surely our forces can maintain this strength without encroaching onto Johnson Valley OHV.

Sincerely submitted,
