Automatic Shifter Handle w/ OD Relocation

I don't know if anybody else thinks the Jeep engineer who designed the location for the OD Off/On button should be kicked in the balls until his brains come out of his ears, but I sure do. I had hoped that somebody in the Jeep aftermarket would come up with a solution, but since that hasn't happened, I've been looking for other alternatives. This (http://www.uprproducts.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=683) is not made specifically for the JK but is apparently easily adapted. I saw pics of it installed on a JK at another site. The price is right, so I'm going to order one up after Christmas.

Anybody have any better ideas before I try this?

I don't particulary like the location of the OD button either and I really don't like the bulky t-shifter. I wish someone would come out with something similar to what was shown in your link, a billet ball style handle with an integral button (i.e.shifter lock) with the OD button close by. I like a smaller more aestheitically pleasing shifter handle better.

Somewhere on here I saw a photo of a billet pistol grip style shifter handle. I would like one of those. Could it have been the realwheels jeep from SEMA..

The wifes Hyundia Accent has the OD button on the shifter and it is a major PITA. To easy to click on and off by accident. I prefer it where it is.

You guys are missing the point...........I don't give a flying f_ _k what the shifter looks like, only that the OD button be where I can reach it.

I know, but I took the opportunity to hijack your thread for my own selfish reasons based on the fact that I don't like the button location or the shifter handle....

I too would like a shot kicking the "engineer" in the balls for the OD switch locale! And I used to use my OD swithc ALL the time on my JK once I went with bigger tires and about 800lbs of skid plates and gear!

So, how about a Jeep KJ handle? Would that fit the JK?

my sources tell me UPR is out of business

yes I can make these with no decal
if there is enough demand I can get some overdrive decals made too

Here is another option
I don't know about the auto shifters ( do youhave to push in center of know to get out of park? )but for std, I make knobs with a button in them
I mostly make them for guys with nitrous or line-lock, trans brakes, big buyers are the mustang clone builders "GONE IN 60 SECONDS' car guys
these are momentary, but I can fit a push on push off that is slightly taller, or use 5 spdt relays to makea mom into push on push off
I make these in several threads or custom thread as needed

Cool shift knobs. I just installed a Hurst shifter with momentary button for line locks on my 68 LaMans.

But alas, for an automatic we need to be able to get it out of PARK with a button first, before we can worry about the electronic OD switch.

You're thinking along the right lines. Get me a Park release button and an OD on/off button, and I'm in.

Ya I thought so
I can't do that, maybe room in stocker, or an aftermarket auto handle I could machine a button hole...........?
I just don't have the time for allot of R & D, the JK panel took me a year to get to & now I'm getting asked to do an overhead panel

I've wanted to make a button that clamps on the shifter handle for along time too, but machining parts like that is likely going to cost me more in time then I could sell them for........need to find an already made clamp that I can adapt etc

anyone who has an idea let me know, I'll see what I can do here & there.
