opinion of the Glock 27?

So I am looking for a pistol now and I believe the Glock is what I want. I want Glock mainly because we are issued Glock 21's I think (I am a LEO) and I would like to just keep it the same brand. Any personal opinions on the gun? I can get it for $399 at a local law enforcement store and the extended clip for $11 more.

Get it..... you can't go wrong. Tough weapon.... I swapped to a 1911 years ago and never looked back. We had to buy our own side arms... and I am glad that we did so I could shoot whatever I wanted.

I am glad they issue us a sidearm and ammo and there is talk of them issuing us a secondary weapon, a Glock 30... If I plan to carry the 27 on duty I have to qualify with it and shoot department approved rounds.

So far i have read nothing but good things on the 27. I also plan to get my CC permit even though I have a badge. This way I am always covered and I get to skip the background check process when buying a new gun.

An issued secondary weapon would be cool.

Can't go wrong with a Glock. The .40 is a nice all around round too.

Glock has had a great reputation since the very begginng of the "plastic pistol" movement. Are others more accurate? Im sure. More reliable? Possibly. Higher capacity? Deffinately. Simplicity? Others have copied it. All three for a great price? Not as far as I can tell. Springfield may fit the bill but I never owned one, so I cant attest.
I love my Glock, I also love my FN 5seven and 1911, but Ill always carry the Glock as it is well suited to my needs and I have more confidence in it than anyother pistol I have.

If this will be backup weapon get a G30, same ammo as the G21 and you can use a G21 mag in it.

The g30 is a little bigger than the 27. I had a g27 and i really liked it. I also have a g30 which i like also. The only negative with the g27 in my opinion is that it has some pretty snappy recoil. You gotta hold on to it.

I loved my 27. Absolutely great gun. I don't know why, but I could actually shoot mine more accurately than my fullsize 22. Don't know why.

I am also LE and carried mine backup for lots of years and loved it.

Phil is right though to get the 30 so you can use your 21 mags. That's what I did with my 22 and 27.

27 is a great pistol. I have absolutely no complaints. I'm former Army and worked with a lot of operators, who really liked the glock. Plus, it performed well in Afghanistan's environment too. I picked up a springfield xd40 on a lark one day and I feel it's a solid piece too. I wouldn't argue with either one and I think you'll be very happy.

I thought about this too but at the same time every other department in the county carries a .40 (so why do we carry .45?) and having the 27 would give me the ability to exchange mags with other agencies during a shoot out... i hope i never see it come to that though!

I have been a Glock 23 and Glock 27 owner for a long time.

The 23 for the office, house, car, Jeep.. The 27 is my conceal carry.

Be sure to get the pinky extension.. feels to weird without it.. go put some rounds through it to get use to the feel... I am sure I don't have to tell you this.. but pistols like the 27 are not about range accuracy because odds are when you have to make noise with the 27, the perp is gonna be real close.

IMO, it is the #1 choice for a back up weapon or concealed carry.

the G36 is interesting... but I am a .40 guy.

Blocks i mean glocks are great but i more of a SA fan i love my xds. My brother has a glock i have shot both many times i think the xd feels much better in my hand it is all about what you like and your budget. If you are looking for a polymer i would check out HKs, usp are great and it is also great because it is d/a. Also you might want to check out the HK45 (if you want to spend $1k) I have not shot this gun but it will fit your hand like a GLOVE!

I have both a G26 and an SA XD9 Service model. The 26 is currently my CCW, but I am WAY more accurate with the 4" XD9. As someone else mentioned, if you have to use your concealed weapon it is normally at close range, but I have to admit that I have been considering trading the G26 for a subcompact XD. Or... I could just add to the collection.

I carry the 27 off duty and love it. My duty weapon is a glock 22, and i prefer the 27. I use a 23 clip in it with the butt extenders. Great gun!

That is the set up I carried for 10 years. 21 as the duty weapon and the 30 on my vest as a backup. Same mags = 40+ rounds of extra ammo already on my belt and most likely on others belts near by.

Most departments I know of carry .45(and 9mm). Best to have 2 compatable weapons on you. I can toss out a thousand scenarios where you are ALONE in a shooting and can't run off to steal another officers magazine.

The 30 is a whopping 2.5mm thicker, 12mm longer, 15mm taller.

sorta.
I like Glocks but only in 9mm frame size, everything else feels retarded, hence why I own an XD45. But glock is glock, they have the weapon down pat so I would not necessarily say "better quality".

But if a Glock fits and feels better to YOU THE OWNER that is all that matters. You will shoot a gun that feels good more and become proficient with it.

The beautiful thing about glocks is they go bang every time,(maybe not every time but there reliability is well established) which for CCW is your main concern. All mine are more than accurate enough for self defense, and even competition. I do like the XD's and M&Ps, more comfortable in the hand (grip angle) but once you get used to something and trust it, it's hard to change. If I had the chance to grab a G27 for 399 I would jump on it. My G26 is a great carry gun, very comfortable and accurate. Good luck.

You made a good choice with the Glock 30. I carried the G21 as my duty and the G30 as a secondary until my department issued us tasers back in 2002. Once they issued tasers they moved from the .45 to .40 which was ok but nothing compares to "THE CANNON"-G21. Our department went standardized across the board all officers are issued a G22 or G23 a G27 and they got rid of the 870 and now use the M-16. Good luck and enjoy.
