Transfer case shifter cable

So I go to put my jeep in 4 low today and the lever started moving normally like it usually does nice and easy. Then suddenly it goes slack so I think to myself there goes another bushing. Well I climb under my jeep to replace the bushing and I see my almost brand new bushing intact and my shifter cable broke where it connects to the transfer case. Anyone have this happen to them?

Whoa, that's a new one. Usually it's the white plastic piece that breaks.

Take it in, they'll replace it. Happened to me and a bunch of other folks.

Well the dealership is going to warranty this and replace the whole cable. The mech was telling me that it has been a recent problem he has been seeing on the jk.

I thought mine was the bushing, but they replaced the whole cable (hint: it wasn't the bushing). Warranty work. I just hope the new cable is more reliable than the old one, mine broke on top of a hill when shifting back into 2WD. It was a fun coast back down the hill to a flat spot where I could work on it (I was testing another repair the dealer had done when the cable broke).

the complete cable cost about $40 to buy from the dealer if they don't warranty it.

I've not had the cable break, but I have had that damn plastic clip holding the cable up into the bracket just before the transfer case give out a couple of times. Of course, it's been at the most inopportune times! It SUCKS climbing under there to put that clip back in whenever your sitting in 18+ inches of mud!

Had the clilp holding the cable break on my girlfriends Liberty when we first started dating. She had never put it in 4wd so I went for it not knowing it was broke.... ended up stuck in 4lo for 3 days before i figured it out.

We have them break in many different places. We keep a whole cable on the shelf, as well as the white end inserts and the orange clips (blue in your pic?). One of the reasons we decided NOT to go with a custom upgrade for the white end inserts, was that those are $.16 and take 2 minutes to replace as opposed to $22 for the whole cable and about 2 hours to replace.

Take lever off Tcase, grind back side of tit and pop it off, drill out to 5/16", use nut & bolt to hold cable to lever... loctite bolt

Never worry about $.22 part again... And I have a complete cable in toolbox just in case
