I agree, it was awesome. Everyone did a wonderful job, and it was definitely a great turn out. I am so glad that I flew in from California for it. It was definitely one of the best events that I have been to so far. I will be back next year too. All I can say is WOW.
thanks Rooster and Mid Florida Jeep Club.

what a great event...

Actually got to put some faces to the screen names here... I think Hitmoney had the most "shocked" look. I think he said he thought i was short dark haired guy.

Next year I'll make damn sure my jeep will be ready. :bawling:

edit - On a side note - who won the best JK? I saw a guy get the award, but i don't recall the jeep.

I snuck beer in.

Had an idea Rooster. Next year, at the Plaza. Informal Jeep Parade each evening (thursday and Friday) @ 5 pm. Meet in front of the Hotel. We did an informal one that met in front of our hotel w/ the Jeep Hut guys, maybe 10 rigs, and we gathered another 2 or 3 rigs while doing it - and had a blast turning heads. We helped pull out people who were in the 4x4 only area up in north daytona.

Just an idea.

Rooster, you and your crew did a hell of a job!!

Only idea for next year would be to have a smaller get together, parade, scrapbook beer party or whatever for JKO members. There were so many people and things going on that I didn't get to hang with as many JKO guys as I would have liked.

You gotta go Friday. Friday was the big drunk night, at least at the Wing House. Everybody over that way died early Saturday night. We went to the street fest downtown and came back about 12 and it was dead.

Hell. Come join me w/ the Thursday Night party. I spent thursday evening at he hotel bar drinking w/ mexican and honduran painters. I spoke spanglish til the wee hours of the morning then went up to the room and pissed off my wife.

Whoever said - JKO get together - great idea. Maybe friday afternoon or night or something at some specific time. Good idea indeed. Damn - whole year til Jeep Beach again. Rooster - any chance of a fall event? lol.

Karn - you dont think we knew you snuck in beer? :thefinger:

Seriously, the reason for the no cooler policy was due to the minimum buy for Americrown. We went way over that so next year expect a change. We will allow coolers of drinks. It was too hot out there for you to have to buy water. So I would say the policy would be a no food only restriction if possible.

Im all for a JKO get together and would like to have at Jeep Beach. Lets make it happen. We are wanting to turn Jeep Beach into a week long event starting with the Go Topless Day event, followed by a party (JKO PARTY?) and then move into Jeep Beach.

Not sure the Plaza will happen. We werent happy with what they did. Ive got a much cooler idea, a more relaxed atmosphere in mind and yes, it is on the beach!

Im all for a fall event but wouldnt want to step on Ocala's toes. We are having a Wheelers For The Wounded Event next month at Wilsons 4x4 in Daytona.

Keep the ideas coming for next year. Believe it or not we start planning for next year next month! No rest for the weary. We are thinking about a Ms Jeep Beach bikini contest on Saturday night (making it a huge party) and the winner would wear the crown and sash in the beach parade and party on Sunday. Good idea?

well we are back home now. Here is my take on it and there is a lot, my girlfriend and I chatted all the way home and she is an event planner so lots of opinions:

-A JKO meet would be cool
-Definitely should be allowed to bring water into the infield (it was hot). Only problem with bringing beer is how do you police those who drink from a private cooler and then run the obstacle course? From what I understand is if you bought a beer, they were suppose to cut off your driver wrist band.
-Obstacle courses were great!
-While there is no such thing as to many prizes... the raffle went way to long and people lost interest. I think other than the very large (red ticket) items; everything should be pulled quietly and stuck on a board. I mean how many steering stabilizer raffles did we have to go through!
-Hotel was great and unless there is a better place i vote keep it there. They had a good amount of parking, and parking for trailers, a pool, a restaurant and a gas station all within walking distance. I didn’t hear anything negative so I hope we return there (and the price was great).
-I think the parade went very well but some people and the lifeguards looked annoyed with us. I hope they let us keep doing it.
-I think the other big one is better directions on the parade part. There seemed to be a bit of confusion on where to go and I didn’t find out till Sunday morning at breakfast.

Thanks Big Jerm we appreciate the feedback! I agree with almost everything you said there and we will listen to everyone and try to better ourselves for next year.

We pulled prizes all day long but we had so many shirts, hats and smaller items we just ran out of time. Agreed though the big items will be done better next year. I just wonder why anyone would spend that much money on raffle items to not stick around and see if they win???

As far as the parade we have the support of the City of Daytona. Trust me a lot of people look forward to seeing this parade every year. It wont go away.

As far as directions to the parade route....that big yellow piece of paper in your goodie bag was a map and directions to all the events. We checked every bag so I know one was in there. I even said during my opening speech that we were staging on the beach and you had to be thru the ISB toll booth by 9am. No biggie though there was a lot of information given out and a lot of partying going on in between.

LOL I like Joker. I partied w/ the Georgia boys from Jeep Hut this weekend. Good guys.

Re: Motel Location - ON THE BEACH! I dont care HOW nice the La Quinta was - it's freaking 5 miles from the Beach. I honestly cannot imagine driving to the beach and NOT staying on the beach. Given the amount of insanity only one tiny jeep club and a few georgia guys pulled at the Holiday Inn, I cant imagine what it would have been like had 300 other Jeepers been there.

And yes Rooster, I know why you chose La Quinta since we talked about it - and I dont blame ya. But like you said, back to the beach next year!!!!

Any motel you choose needs at least one thing: a bar. And preferably one other thing: a restaurant. Wife and I enjoyed ordering food pool side and drinking 2 for 1 beers from the Holiday Inn bar. And Carl the security guard rocks.

Did you guys get Carl drunk?

karnuvore
05-18-2009, 05:41 PM
We tried. Either he didnt drink or he took his job seriously. I dont recall.

A guy in our club drives motorhomes for millionaires as a living and they give him all their beer they have left after Gators games. So this guy, Big dog aka dave, shows up w/ something like 100 bottle beers. Problem is, they were all microbrews and...well..let's just say we're not microbrew kinda hicks. Anyways, we never look a gift horse in the mouth and made it our MISSION to empty the smaller of the two coolers the first night all by ourselves - which we did. We pride ourselves on our professionalism even in drinking.

Carl rolled w/ it pretty good.

The security gaurd the second night - not so much. That guy yelled at us after we finished the scrapbook tour. He said "Hold it down! There are people in this motel trying to sleep." So Jake responds (without skipping a beat) "Yeah and none of them are on this floor." He was right - scrapbookers, pool, us - all first floor - no rooms there.

So Jake talks to the guy for a while and I walked off. As Im walking off I hear Jake saying something about "Stop or I'll say stop again!" - apparently a dig at the fact the the guy was a security guard (Jake, LOL, is a cop).

Hours later the same guy came out and yelled at us for being too loud in the pool. It's all kinda vague.

The Jeep Hut owner, Mike, was hilarious. He lost his flask at some point and was walking around griping and complaining and saying "SOMEONE STOLE MY DAMN FLASK!" Well I knew damn well his drunk ass lost it and kept saying that but he wouldnt hear it. So Jake got the bright idea to tell Mike (big fella now) that "the guy over there talking to that girl stole it, you should throw him over the balcony down onto the beach." Luckily, Mike didnt listen. He found his flask in the motel room the next morning. And the guy talking to the girl? Oh that was Jake's "competition" flirting w/ a girl he felt he had dibs on because his drunk ass lured her over to our table and got her to hang out w/ us all evening. hahahaha

Update: Mike joined our forum. We are going to be dealing meth through mexico in no time flat!

Hi Rooster,
I'm not sure if I met you at Jeep Beach, or who I met there for that matter. I will make sure that I put faces to user names at JeeptoberFest for sure. Being the secretary of Treasure Coast Jeep Club, I have met many of the MFJC and SFJC members. I did comment on the survey, but here goes...

I do understand, after doing the majority of planning at our show last year, how difficult it is. Kudos to all of you for another successful show! I've been going since 2006 and every year gets even better. It's difficult to please everyone, and I think that you managed to pull it off.

We have always stayed at LaQuinta because we usually bring both Jeeps, a trailer and the Tahoe to tow the trailer. That counts as four vehicles that you have to pay extra parking for and LaQuinta has always been great about allowing us to park in the back of the hotel. Parking is so limited at the beach hotels that we usually can't find a place to park; like at the Plaza on Saturday evening. Plus, you have Ker's right next door. We can all drink and stumble back to the hotel; no DD necessary. I really don't mind the ride to the beach, but I could see wanting to stay on the beach if you don't live there. I live two miles from the ocean all year long, so the five mile drive really is no biggie.

Prize drawings are boring. You are doing great with smaller prizes on the board. I think that just the really big ones should be announced. I actually fell sound asleep during the drawing at JeeptoberFest in 2007. But, who knew that you would have so many prizes? We even had to cancel our show because our sponsoring dealer is no longer selling Jeeps; so no sponsoring dealer. We were going to shoot for having a small SNS event in early October, but we also don't want to step on Ocala's toes. We're working on something now, so we'll see what happens.

I understand about the cooler thing and I'm sure that you had some limitations due to the speedway's restrictions and insurance, etc. but it would have been nice to bring some water in. It would have been more convenient to be able to just grab a water from a cooler rather than come off the course, take a long walk, and wait in line just to get a water. The food was good though and I'm sure it was easier for you guys.

A meet and greet for JKO would be great. I'd like to meet more of you and it would be nice if we had a place and time to show up and meet. We went up on Friday, picked up registration, went to Ker's, went to dinner, drank and then did it again on Saturday night at Ker's. We stumbled back to LaQuinta at around midnight and someone broke out a jar of moonshine of all things. At one point, we weren't sure if any of us were going to make the parade or not.

As for the directions to the parade, I never saw them - at least until we got home and I looked in the bag. My husband loves the dog tags, but the chains needed to be a little longer. I felt like I was choking, but he didn't have a problem at all. I liked the little cards with all of the times/places on them. Good idea. But, having gone to all of the other parades, we just drove east until we found the other 300 Jeeps. It's usually at 9:00, so we guessed that it would be again this year. The only difference was that we staged at the beach instead of the park. I thought it was better, but either way. The parade was great as always. I'm always in awe to see that many Jeeps in a line....definitely something special.

We didn't win the best participation award again this year, but we did have 98% participation. We were only missing two families; three Jeeps total. I think that we did great for a small club. We are looking forward to next year already. Keep up the good work. We're sure that whatever you guys come up with for Jeep Beach 2010 will be awesome!

I am making a DVD from the video footage and pics that I have. I've seen a bunch of great albums and videos out there. The problem is that between getting sick for three weeks, going out of town the week after Memorial Day, being secretary of TCJC, going to Wilson's yesterday and then a club meeting last night and getting ready to go out of town this Sunday for another week, I haven't had the time to finish it. I told Anita that I would mail you guys a copy when it's done. Make as many copies as you like, and if anyone else would like one, just send me your address and I'd be happy to make you one. Most of the course footage is of our members, but the parade includes every single Jeep that was there. Maybe I will do a second, shorter DVD with just the parade if you guys would rather have that one.

Take care,
Charlene

Thanks for the Jeep Beach comments. We will be changing a few things with the track for next year. Being our first year there we didnt know what to expect but now we do.

Glad to see you made it over to the JKO. Be sure to check out the Florida section.

I was at Wilson's, really late, but made it in around 11:30 after taking the slow way up US1. I saw your Jeep, but you are never in it so I can't put a face with the ride. It's ok, I"m sure I"ll see you sometime, and will probably say "oh ya, that's you" or something like that. Really nice Jeep though.

Jeep Beach is always awesome. I really look forward to it every year. I just don't know how you guys do it. Please don't take offense, I would never complain, but you did ask for suggestions. I have no complaints.

I'm actually an "honorary" member of your club. At least until next month, our bylaws say that I can't be a member of another club if I'm an officer of mine. I thought that someone else would want to be Secretary this year, but no such luck.

Take care,
Charlene
