: Moab pics - April 2009
Alec W 04-19-2009, 09:10 PM Some Moab pics from the last couple of days.
Scott (WTF_LOL), Alan (CO Hummer) and some other friends ran a few trails in Moab. Weather was weird at first but cleared up and we had a blast. We ran Fins, Hell’s, Cliff Hanger, Poison Spider, Golden Spike, Gold Bar and Seven Mile Rim.
We mostly shot video but here are a few pics.
Edit: Added video. Go here http://www.myprojectjk.com/200904moab.html and click on the trip movie link
Running fins was weird, we had a major dust storm and the visibility was well just weird… That evening it rained red dirt with was also weird. After 25 odd Moab trips I’ve never seen anything like it.

RotorHead 04-20-2009, 12:41 PM Great pics as usual Alec. It looks a whole lot more peaceful compared to last week during EJS. You're right, the weather did look weird the first day.
Oh yah, you may want to watch where you park your rig. It looks like that outcropping is ready to fall onto California. :thefinger:

You didn't run Pritchett again?
Roxster 04-20-2009, 07:21 PM Awesome pictures. I have a ways to go before taking on some of the trails with a high pucker factor. In any case, here's a link to my photo album from Moab, including a lot of scenery and some challenging but less extreme wheeling (Fins, Poison Spider Mesa, Chicken Corners).

Look like you had fun! We ran Fins and Things at one point as well. It is a nice little trail. That whole area is so other-worldly. Feels like mars or something

Funny you say this... I can't remember how many times I said to my wife "it feels like we're driving on Mars or something". Not that I would actually know...

You didn't run Pritchett again?
Thanks. I wanted to run it but it just didn’t work out timing wise. I’ll have to wait until June ;)
ChasJK 04-21-2009, 06:33 AM Alec, 'Great Pictures'... I need to make it to Moab...
Born2run 04-21-2009, 07:31 AM Great shots but whats with the Hummer in the pic that just spoiled the image....
JK the H1/H2/H3 recovery vehicle.
Alec W 04-21-2009, 08:15 AM Great shots but whats with the Hummer in the pic that just spoiled the image....
JK the H1/H2/H3 recovery vehicle.
I'd love to see you try to recover a Hummer with a JK. Seriously, if a 10,000 lbs H1 was stuck in the middle of Golden Spike what would you do with your JK to recover it?
Lots of my good friends own Hummers, as have I. Are you so vain that just because you don’t like a brand, you don’t like a picture?

I dont like the looks of that cliff!:shaking: Seat belts on? or off? I think I would leave mine off ...just in case!
Looks like a GREAT trip!!!
Alec W 04-21-2009, 10:08 AM I dont like the looks of that cliff!:shaking: Seat belts on? or off? I think I would leave mine off ...just in case!
I put the belt on out of habit but that’s a good 1000 foot vertical drop so you’re f’ed either way if something goes wrong!
me = scared of heights :bawling:
That white H1 is badass. You have a pick of it on golden crack?
Alec W 04-21-2009, 10:19 AM I got recovered by a H1 on Escalator :D :D :D
I got pulled off a rock by a H3 (Bebe) a while back and Scott did helped Lyn get her Hummer over a step on Cliff Hanger :D
When we ran 7 mile we had JKs (2 door and 4 door), TJs, H1s, H2s, H3s, and a built Toyota. I very much enjoy wheeling when there are lots of different vehicles out there as I also enjoy running Golden Spike with just the 3 other built up Jeeps. Single brand and/or model wheeling for the sake of it is boring (for the most part).
haven’t gone through all my pics yet but decided just to post the group shot knowing someone would lightly get all bent out of shape :laughing:
Alec W 04-21-2009, 10:31 AM That white H1 is badass. You have a pick of it on golden crack?
That guy lives in Moab year round and got that H1 truck about 6 months ago. It’s cool and for open diffs and no articulation crawled up stuff easily. It’s fun to be different like that.
No pics on Golden Crack.
Broncojohn 04-21-2009, 11:18 AM Question for the 4-door guys that ran Cliffhanger; on the way in did any one climb the right side of the obstacle just after the stream in one of your cliffhanger pics? I've been wondering about ground clearance in a 4dr. This obstacle I remember well so I could get a good measure. It kicked my ass in the Bronco until I finally said fk-it told my buddy to get out and hit it. I had a truetrac in the front so it wasn't locking up well and had to ride the brake to keep the front locked up. The movie makes it look easy but I didn't record the 1st 10min of dicking around. I want to run it in my 4-door when I get 37's under it.

STUPIDFACE 04-21-2009, 11:36 AM I now have a couple of those pics as my desktop backgrounds at home and the office. The blue sky against the red rocks is......uh......WOW JUST WOW!!! Its gonna be a long drive from Bayou Gauche, Louisiana, but i plan on being there next year. Oh, thats pronounced....BY-YOU GAWSH.....:D

Alec, the sandstorm pics are beautiful and amazing :smokin:. Overall it looks like an awesome trip.
WTF_LOL 04-21-2009, 12:37 PM Question for the 4-door guys that ran Cliffhanger; on the way in did any one climb the right side of the obstacle just after the stream in one of your cliffhanger pics?
I don't recognize that particular obstacle but on most the obstacles we hi the harder lines on them so we probably hit that one as well.
The thing I can say is it was fun running with Alec. It was fun to see how my 2 dr did on obstacles compared to his 4 door. There was ones that I had a hell of a time with or just couldn't get up on the hard line where his just walked up. On the same note, there were obstacles that his 4 dr had a hard time with that mine went right through.
In the end, only some gave him a hard time that were easy for me but he still made it. I made it through most that were hard in the 2dr but easy in the 4dr but there was a couple I could not get through that his did. I would say in Moab the longer wheel base was superior overall with only a handfull of spots being easier in the 2dr but not impassable with the 4dr
Broncojohn 04-22-2009, 05:53 AM Awsome, thanks for the info. Moab is aways a good time. You guys had a sand storm we had rain.
Proud Rebel 04-22-2009, 07:11 AM That is some beautiful terrain! Glad you shared!:bounce:

Yeah, I should have checked it out. There were a group of Fsj's looking at the hill wondering if it was a good idea. We hit 7 mile rim late about 4pm so we were in a bit of a hurrie to get through. Next time......

The left side looks intimidating but honestly you don’t even spin a tire (even unlocked).
airric00 04-22-2009, 09:08 PM SICK!!! Man I wish I went.. It's going to be hard to top that one this year! Can't wait to things open up more here... Great pics and looks like you had a full weekend.. Now have fun washing out that red dirt!! :thefinger: Can you tell I'm jealous?

Thank for sharing the pics Alec. That was the time of my life man. I can not belive how fast the time went by and how much I have thought about it already, lol
...I see I really need to get that spare off the door. It looks like even though the tow hook was taking the impact, the tire was still dragging. I am surprised I made it through the trip without damaging it.

WTF_LOL 04-25-2009, 01:08 PM This pic is pretty cool also Alec. It actually manages to capture how steep some stuff was out there. This does not even look like you should be able to drive up it. Do you recall which obstacle this was?

Alec W 04-25-2009, 01:28 PM This pic turned out pretty cool Alec! I don't even recognize that spot.
It’s where you dropped in to Cliff Hanger. It’s B/W because sometimes my stupid camera goes into blue mode and making them B/W is the only way to fix the pics.

Ground clearance should be fine with 37's, there's just not much room on top before you have to turn left before your right fender eats the cliff face. I think your left rear would probably end up climbing the larger rock outcropping in the center. Doable? I think so.
Here's a 4 door :) going up it ... advantage rear steer!

I really want to. Sounded like Alec would be down.
I gave my spare axle shaft to a friend that broke his Ujoint on the trail the other day so I deffinetly want to wait til that gets returned.
I hope to have a three rig group to run it so if I can find two other rigs that don't mind body damage then I hope to go soon!
