I used to ride with some guys from Jeepcrazed (which I dont think is around anymore) when I had the old YJ but I sold it a few years ago and just a couple months ago got back into a Jeep again, so I havent been out with the JK yet. How about you?

Just getting into all this really - not gone wheeling yet....K&I is the big club, but I knew Max from MOAB back in the day so I'll probably end up just going out with those guys. Big K&I event tomorrow @ the Bass Pro Shops. "Off-Road Parking"...Should be a bunch of Jeeps out there. Around noon is when it's supposed to be in full swing. Max and those guys will be out there too.

Frankfort, Ky here!
I too am looking for off road areas... nothing mud boggin' or rock crawling... just a good drive with some challenges.
I did however find a road last sunday....
It started off like a back country road... nice drive thru farms and fields and some trees.... a nice high ridge on one side.
Well... it turned into a muddy deep rutted challenge found in the 4wd magazines! LOL
With my stock 09' sahara I had to turn around. I was advised by two atv'ers that my stock jeep would probably not make it. they did offer to stay near us in case we don't make it.... lol I thanked them and turned around! LOL
I will try and get some kind of map info for you all, in my next post here!
If you guys find it and try it... let me know.

This road I found from the post above... is called Severn Creek Road in Owen County. It travels between Rt 355 Gratz Road and Rt 127 Owenton Road.
I found it at the Rt 355 end.. and traveled a nice distance until I could not go any further. (with my stock Sahara and new jeep driver)
It is near a bridge going over the Severn Creek, right next to the Kentucky River. The entry is across from an old ruins of a home... chimneys are the only thing left.
ONce you enter it.... it is a neat drive.... it opens to a old country house sitting all by itself on the right... and a small wooden bridge. Cross the bridge and the road narrows quite a bit and within minutes it is rutted and muddy.
I have to admit I turned around... new jeep, new jeep driver, no ropes, no winch not even a shovel and not driving with another jeep.
Let me know if anyone tries this... and even better if you did the whole route.
Ralph

I have no clue if you are gonna like it or if it is a challenge for you. I have no idea how it all is, throughout the entire road...
I felt I challenged myself and I was fine with turning around... LOL (baby steps for now)

I visit so many sites it is hard to hit them all. But i just came across this one. I am from Owensboro, KY. Speaking of Bowling Green there is a new OHV park down there. It is pretty nice and lots of fun. It is called The Wishbone Ranch. I've been down there several times. Pretty big ride coming up in two weeks on March 27th and 28th. Here is there website. http://www.thewbr.com/

Also you can check out our local site www.bluegrass4x4.org and a TN,KY tri-state area site is www.itsajeep.org We all go wheeling at Turkey Bay at LBL in KY, Wheeling N the Country in Summertown, TN and Wishbone Ranch in BG and Interlake Property in Lynnville, IN. These are all great places.

The Fall fire department fundraiser ride is on Sept 18th, meeting at the ZOE firehouse about 9 am, LEAVING for the trails at 10 am. The money raised will help pay for the day to day expenses incurred by the volunteer fire department that covers much of the areas we ride at Slade. The ride will be on some private land, as well as National forest lands as always. There is a cookout afterwards at the end of the day, and a $20 donation per rig is requested. These are great rides, supporting a great cause, so come out and be a part of it.

We get to ride on some of the trails that are on private land. This is the only time to do so. There are some really good trails down there. Last spring there were around 75 or more rigs show. Buggies to badass rock crawlers.

About Wishbone Ranch, I went there in my stock and no one laughed they all respected I was there and told me not to try some stuff but there are a few "playground" areas to go watch others. I did have a little too much faith in my stock tires and had to get winched up and over a few rocks. But hey I tried it.

Kinda, Will probably have to build a few rock piles to get you over a some obstacles. Like on the little widow maker. I have taken a stock jk and tj down that trail but it took some time. I was wanting to hit carb hill and that trail gets knarly. If you decide you want to go. I will not take you anywhere I think you'll tear something up. Mine is a DD also so I know how it is.

We will be meeting at the gas station right off the hwy. I recommend 35 or larger tires. If you want to follow us the whole time. However if you are stock there are plenty of trails that will be ok on a stock jeep. That I can show you. Should be a good time.

I read over on pirate that the main entrance on sandlick gate is shut and you have to go in the back way. Please do me a favor and post up if it is indeed gated. I'm not entirely sure how to go in the back way. It is open to wheel, just for some reason I read they gated main entrance.

So far on the 19th have just 2 jku's going. Been trying to get a guy at my work to take his long arm mall krawling TJ. This thing is badass but I really don't think it has ever seen a real trail before.

Frankie, I've already touched base with you on this, but posting just for anyone that reads the thread. Sand Lick entrance isn't closed or gated. Barker's Branch is though, but working on getting it re-opened.

Chris, have we formulated a meeting time and place for the 19th?

How about 9 or 10am at that gas station right off the exit. It's 2hr drive for me to get down there.

9 would be better for us. My wife has a party that night and we have to be back by 6.

I have a thing to go to that evening as well. I can do 9, but will probably need to cut out around 3:30-4. I'm hoping I've got a new exhaust on by then...

I will post a few pics this evening. Over all good day. No one broke anything. Besides my rear locker not working all the time. Got to meet a group of great people.
It was muddy and real slick. We ran a bunch of easy trails. I feel like I didn't get my fix. Going back real soon.

I'll be happy to send you up Widowmaker, Carb, Slider, Hairpin, Lower & Upper Staircase next time. I'm begging anyone to run Devil's Brew. :D

I ended up going back down Sunday and just putted around exploring a bit. I can't do anything too extreme until after Windrock unfortunately though.

Next trip down widowmaker it is.:smokin:. And as far as devil's brew go's. That Sh!t is just crazy!! Thanks again for showing us around down there. We got to see parts of the red river gorge that I would have never found. That place is so huge.

Here are some pic's. Didn't get as many as I thought. But most of the highlights I think.

There's also the Zoe FD benefit ride on May 21st, so that's something to mark your calendar for as well. I may have a scheduling conflict with the clean-up ride (which I usually attend) because of the LBL Jamboree unfortunately.

The clean-up ride is always a good time though. Some work and wheeling and it's important to do with the land issues going on currently at Slade.

I thought it was the 14th? The Zoe FD ride is on the 21st.

The Trail Keepers Foundation will be hosting a trail clean up on May 14th at Slade in preparation for the Zoe Fire Department ride the following week.

We will meet at the Fire Department at 9:30 am. Please back a sack lunch. Dinner will be provided around 4:30pm at the fire department.

Raffle prizes will be given away including a 3000lb winch, gift cards, tshirts and possibly more.

Those that attend both the spring and fall cleanup will be entered into a drawing for an 8000lb winch.

We encourage everyone who is interested in saving this area to attend.

Thanks!

If anyone is attending, please email amanda@trailkeepers.org so that they have a head count for the dinner after the ride.

If you haven't been to the Dirty Turtle or Hillz n Hollarz in KY, they're both worth the trip. DT is in Bedford and HnH is in Bethlehem.
