As my grandpa, used to say about making a decision "sh!t or get off the pot"

After about 4-5 weeks of researching and looking for a new compact 1911 45, I picked one up today. I have been on the fence about three different models (was two until Ron pointed out the Agent and that delayed my decision), the Colt Defender and the Kimber Ultra Carry.

Then I looked at the Agent and had my heart set on that one for a while, and finally came back to my original gut feeling and went with the Kimber Ultra. The reasons for my decision (they were all about even in my book) were:

1. Didn't want a stainless weapon (thats the only way you can get a defender).

2. Decided that the trough sights just weren't for me since the sights could help me and my so so vision (Agent has trough sights).

3. The Kimber came in blued version, had sights (although they are black and I will swap them out) and fit my small hand well, so it was the decision.

Sorry about the crappy pics, but my good camera is at work in my desk and all i have is my cell (I will take better pics next week when I'm back at work and have my camera).

Anyway, there it is, now I just gotta get out and shoot it.
Any advice form you 45 owners on breaking in a new 45? I picked up some 230 grain 45 full metal jacket (target/range Winchester brass ammo)......

Damn dude that thing is sexy!

Let us know how it shoots. They are going to jump quite a bit more than the large frames so you gotta remember your "sight-aquire-fire" between shots.

And how did the Kimber compare price wise...

Price wise, they are all within the same range, the defender is the most expensive of the three because of the stainless, but they all fall in the range of 750 - 900 depending on where you go.

I paid in the lower range for mine and after research, I probably could have got it a little cheaper online, but after FFL transfer, etc, it would have been more, plus I bought it locally, so its easier to deal with repairs, etc.

Get some practice time in and we will take the CHL course together

I'm taking the CHL next Saturday. Don't know if I will qualify with this one unless I have time to get used to it, I may qualify with my Ruger 9mm, but I will probably take both with me....I know its short notice, but your welcome to join me.

I was shooting the Trijicons before I found these several years ago. Was big into competitive shooting back then and the XS sights made for a quicker sight (flash sight) you basically "dot the I" and blam... super fast.

I shaved the sights on my ankle gun, just gonna point and shoot when it comes to that anyway. That is one reason that I like the New Agent.

I even put the XS sights on my "people" shot gun.... it is the ghost ring version of the XS

If you know which end the bullet comes out, you will do just fine:mr-t:
You start at 3 yards - I asked if I could use the gun or if I had to throw the bullet :laughing:
then step back to 7, then 15 yards.
If you shoot ok from 3 and 7, you should have enough points to pass without firing a single round into the target from 15!

the shooting portion is really easy.

If you know which end the bullet comes out, you will do just fine:mr-t:X2 It is a pretty much a "fog a mirror" shooting test. Scoring 250 is very easy, failing the shooting part of the course is almost impossible.

If you shoot ok from 3 and 7, you should have enough points to pass without firing a single round into the target from 15!The trick is to make a big hole at 3 and 7 then just fire the rest off the target and no one will ever know ;) Better yet, shoot some low scores on your neighbors target :D :D :D
