: Handgun storage in the Jeep.
Preacher 03-04-2009, 07:53 AM One of my concerns with buying a vehicle where the top and doors would be off most of the year, was secure storage.
Here in NC, there are a list of places where you are not allowed to carry a concealed handgun and for those times, I wanted a way to secure a handgun while I went about my business (In the bank, etc)
After searching around, I found a lockbox that fits the bill, and for $25, the price was attractive.
This arrived yesterday. It is a sturdy steel box and comes with a cable you can use to secure it to a stationary object. It also has pre-drilled holes in the bottom so it can be bolted down (my choice...)
As you can see, you can easily fit my G30 with extended G21 Magazine, so it would easily fit a full sized G21, 1911 or most other popular autoloaders. It will also fit a 5-shot revolver, though my 6-shots are too large to close it without stressing the locking mechanism.

Now I just have to find the perfect spot for it in the Jeep!
dcj090 03-04-2009, 08:38 AM Everytime you get in your Jeep, you have to unlock it and put in the glove box or somewhere you can get to it quick to take out a couple of crack heads. If everyone would take out a couple everyday, then within a year there would only be Jeep owning JKO forum dudes left!:thefinger:

I carry every day, even at home. This is just for those times the law will not let me carry (into a bank, into a courthouse etcv)
It will also be used to hold my registration, my insurance, small items that I don't want to trust to the flimsy glove box lock.
ryland 03-04-2009, 09:06 AM I just carry my g27 in the winter with a pocket holster in my jacket and in the summer with an ankle holster under my pants, or just wear a light jacket.
NorthGAX 03-04-2009, 09:13 AM I thought that this would be a good solution to secure devices in the JK.

dougnpj 03-04-2009, 09:19 AM This was a easy fix for me... I just moved to Cali so I cant have one in the car. I think you can get in trouble just saying gun here. :shaking:

Not sure what this has to do with the thread?

Yeah... it is a good solution. In fact, it is a great solution.
It is also $500 plus shipping.
Mine was $26.00 plus shipping. :bounce:
venom 03-04-2009, 06:15 PM I went with the tuffy console for this exact purpose
I had a lock box in my old truck but couldnt find a place to mount it in the jk
Overall, I'm very happy with the console, it's just better all around
secure, more comfortable, bigger
worth the money to me - got mine from trailduty
Mr.RonGilbert 03-04-2009, 06:21 PM I am going to do the console... actually will be my next purchase.
Has anyone tried the gunvault? I use one of these in the bedroom mounted to the wall and it is very easy to get in to. I wonder if it will fit under the front seat... I picked mine up for $70 at a gun show. The biometric one is very cool but a little pricey.

I thought about it, I have owned one before, but this is intended for short-term storage. When I have to take my pistol off my belt and go into a bank or something, I want to be able to secure it.
The box I got fits perfectly inside the little cubby (Trunk LOL) in the back, and I think I will bolt it in there. Between the lock box and the lock on the cubby lid, I think it will work for my purposes.

I don't like the combo lock, but the box idea is sweet!
edwin907 03-04-2009, 06:57 PM I've got the Tuffy console insert and the one for the glove box also.
Going to mount a small leather holster on the side of the console for the P7M8 or M13.

Aha! dammit..... I will just wait for the center console. And will order it from Trailduty just as soon as I can get the cash!!!
(coughFREESHIPPINGcoughcough)
Rescue1 03-05-2009, 09:43 AM i got the tuffy glove box. the best "mod" i've done yet. that's where mine lives while i'm at work.
however i do like the op's box. and $26 makes it even more attractive.
mmcan 03-06-2009, 08:37 AM word of advice. I used to carry well now I cant thats right. I was in a situation in the woods camping and was feared for life and others. apparently the law is f'ed up. It says like you can carry but you cant fire it unless they fire first or somethin. I slowly getting out of charges but very costly and losing gun rights. total crap for being a good citizen. Ill never have a chance to carry a handgun but they cant stop me from my shot gun haha beware to my fellow jeepers. your better off to run them over and STING'EM AND leave then take shot with a concealed carry permit. even if its a potential danger you CANT PULL A GUN IF THEY DONT FIRST. 2 CENTS
Move to Texas.
Shoot first, ask questions later.
J.PIRY@COMCAST.NET 03-06-2009, 12:46 PM have you seen this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Auto-Safe-Jeep-Wrangler-CJ-YJ-TJ_W0QQitemZ110308773719QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_ Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item110308773719&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

I hadn't, but it is similar to what I bought, just larger. Mine can be screwed down or locked to an object with a cable, same as that one.
I like the looks of that one, but am satisfied with what I got.
usmcdoc14 03-07-2009, 03:06 PM Any "trucker" stop (Pilot/TA) will have those boxes and a bracket that allows them to be mounted under a seat/dash

I ordered this for the jeep. Nice thing is that it is flush with the back. Bad thing is it is in the back of the jeep. Large enough for my handguns and ammo. I wish my TJ also had something like this. I am tempted to mount a large lock box in the back.
Mikey's Rubi 03-13-2009, 11:30 AM carefull with that...it doesn't make the "trunk" waterproof. Ammo and guns don't like water :)
RickStefani 03-13-2009, 10:05 PM Low point in the back of the jeep. did not think of that. Now off to find a waterproof bag. Haha.
