We plan to run Pine Mountain and Garcia Ridge, near San Luis Obispo, CA. Pine Mountain shows as a difficult (medium grade) type trail, Garcia Ridge is an intermediate type trail. This is the first time for me on these trails so I am uncertain on what we will come across. We mostly are just going to explore the area and get together with good company for a few beers around the fire.

There are three of us going so far, 2 JKs (40s, 37s) and 1 TJ (35s). Should be fun. We are bringing plenty of firewood to keep it warm. Other than that we are camping under the stars.

We are leaving from Ontario Friday morning, expected to be there no later than 3PM. Details are below:

1. Camp at LaPanza Friday 1/30/09
a. 3521'9.01"N
b. 12015'57.48"W
2. Run Pine Mountain 1/31/09 at 0800
3. Drive to Garcia Ridge around 1200
4. Run Garcia Ridge around 1300
5. Camp at Hi Mountain around 1500
a. 3515'39.14"N
b. 12024'48.80"W
6. Break camp 2/1/09 at 0800 for home. This should get us home prior to the superbowl.

I ran both those trails almost stock.. 2" lift and 32's... Both doable very easily!!! I suggest spending more time over by pine mountain. There is alot more trail system to play on.... If you plan to run Garcia Ridge, then I suggest pulling your fenders cause you WILL pinstripe your JK... It's scrub brush for miles that isn't built for our wide JK's.. However if you don't care then go for it!!!! Its a fun little trail out and back..

Pics of our run!!! Remember when I was stock? :shaking:

That is good to know. We will probably play some of this by ear. The main thing is to start out in the Pine Mountain area, if we think that it is worth staying we will probably run a few other trails up there on Saturday. Then the question is to stay at LaPanza again Sat night or head down to Hi Mountain. Who knows?:shaking: If I get any takers in the forum we will have to agree on what is happening ahead of time.

What is the better camp area? Hi Mountain or LaPanza?

Pine Mountain was closed earlier this month. Be sure to call ahead to confirm the possible road closure.

I just spoke with Santa Lucia Ranger District and they confirmed all roads are open. The website is a misprint that was suppose to be taken down.

Thanks for the heads up though.

Yeah he's already been in contact with them. Not sure if they're running with us or not.

Here is a quick overview of Pine Mountain Trail, Lapanza CG and Hi Mountain CG.

Needless to say the stairsteps proved too much for us and we turned around this time rather than risk a roll over. Next time we will try to climb it rather than go down it. I went down the stairsteps all the way to the last drop. Then we all came to the same conclusion, lets turn around today, first time we have turned around on a trail.:pissed: We were mostly concerned with the 500 ft drop on the driver side. Worried the incline and line was too steep to control considering the drop.

None of us were happy to turn around, especially considering the trail ended a short distance after the obstacle.

That is good to know. Would have been good to have some locals on the run to understand the lines.

Next time I will give er a shot.

lol, really. I woulda like to have seen that. Like Chad said we've yet to turn around on a trail and have done some hairy **** in our jeepin days. I just can't picture a stocky takin that last section, let alone with "no problem". Guess I'm just a puss.... If you have some pics or vids of that stocky I would really like to check em out.

I ran across when I was researching the trail. It was a 4 door Red Rubicon on his stock 32's. It was a father and son from what I remember... Ill try and locate the story and pics... Think he said it took like 2 hours to make it down. But he made it..

Here is a TJ going up...

Thats my ugly mug on the right side of the yellow rubicon.

Ive come down that in a stock wheelbase TJ on the front wheels.

That yellow bacon and the girlfriends blue one have been up it when they were stock.
The only fun section of rock around here.

:homersimpson: MMMMmmmmmmmm
