Dates: April 4th-12th
I think myself and some of the boys are heading out late Tuesday, i will be coming back on Saturday to play Easter bunny with my kids. I know a lot of the Colorado guys have expressed an interest but we really need to try to figure out who is going and what we want to do?
I have a few guys that we went with last year and we usually get a condo, i don't know if we will do this again or if we will just get hotel rooms, what is everyone else doing?
If other people want to head down when we do you are definitly invited to caravan it with us!
Here is a link with a little more info.

As always (7 years in a row) I’ll be passing the Colorado Moab crown on I70 in the other direction and spending the week after EJS in Moab. If anyone else doesn’t like the crowds they are more than welcome to join us. Yeah, I’m anti social ;)

I wouldn’t go there in July or August, it’s Africa hot and I’ve see temps in the 110s+ out on the slick rock. It’s miserable, especially if you have to start wrenching or get stuck.
On the plus side the trails are empty in the summer.

Do you guys have certain trails you want to hit? I need to check out there website and see if there is a schedule out yet?

Alec,
What are your plans for dates in MOab? I like wheeling with no doors and no pants and that can be embarrasing with all the crowds there.
I will just be camping. Would love to have an experienced MOab guy there first time I go. Is it just you so far or do you have anybody else going?
Airric00...think you said you were going, you down to skip the crowds?

We have reservations and will be there the 8th-11th.
I just got my EJS newspaper the other day, but didn't look through the schedule yet. If you don't find it on their website, let me know and I can scan it tonight and post. Some of my favorites are Golden Spike, Moab Rim, Hell's Revenge ...
EDIT:
Here's a link to the schedule on Red Rock 4 Wheelers website, http://centralpt.com/upload/329/7350_2009_EJSTrails_spreadsheet.pdf. Their website is http://www.rr4w.com

I’m not 100% on actual days. I’ll probably go out on the 15th and come back on Sunday. I may go earlier. I’ll probably be renting a condo with a couple of friends (Alan is one you’ve met) but haven’t booked anything yet. I bet you could use a couch if you wanted. We will have some hummer people with us that I’ve been wheeling with for years on the easy trails but will dump them on the harder trails :D:D
Moab is so much fun and you’ll have a blast. Alan and I have been showing Moab n00bs the ropes for years now and you are going to be amazed at what you will walk all over in your JK.

I ran Heel's last summer in the JK on my own in 57 minutes including the easy hot tub, hell’s gate and tipover challenge. I don’t care for the escalator so bypassed that since I was on my own. I’d rate Golden Spike and Kane Creek as my favorite Moab trails. I haven’t run Moab Rim yet since the wife hates cliffy stuff so I try to avoid trails where it’s all cliffy for her.

Kane creek is a nice run.

A lot of people don’t like it because of the brush and all the pin stripes but I really like tooling around at the bottom of that canyon for some reason. I used to take my H2 through there, talk about scratching the crap out of it :laughing:

I bet it did, it was awesome snaking through there crossing the water back and forth. The climb out was fun too, it was dark and awesome in in the moonlight.

It's great for a quick trip, isn't it ... close to town, good obstacles and everything. We usually run this on our own on Super Saturday. We get out ahead of the safari trail, are done in a couple of hours and then go eat lunch at Potato Salad Hill watching the roll overs.

You guys won't believe this, all my EJS plans blew up today, the guys i was going to go with bailed and are going to Rangley, i don't think the JK is quite ready for that.
I don't know what i am going to do now, there still might be 1 or 2 people wanting to go, but i doubt it they have a week long ski trip right before EJS, so i doubt they will go.

Actually his house is full so we are renting a condo up by the golf course. I haven’t looked into it yet but maybe we can find a bigger condo, the problem is finding ones that are pet friendly. I'll do some checking around during the week.

You guys afraid of camping?
Alec W
01-25-2009, 09:51 AM
Its fine for a couple of nights but Moab is dusty so after a long day on the trails I like a nice shower, a couch and a good bottle of Scotch more than a lawn chair and smokey fire. Yeah, I’m old ;)

yah, thats true. I camped in MOab before and could not belive how many bugs there was also. like a swarm. could not be outside, of course, we were right on the colorado

We camped on the Colorado in Canyon Lands NP last July, not only was it 110°, it was mosquito season! I have honestly never seen so many bugs, they were literally crawling all over us and biting even though I was liberally coated in repellent.
I have one of those net shelter thingies and we pretty much spent all night in the thing until the bats came out and took out the mosquitoes. There were some funny moments but overall it sucked.
In April it's not so bad but the red dust gets everywhere. That’s unless it gets windy. The first year I camped there it got so windy the tent blew over and I found out why they have those dust storm warning signs on HW 191 and I70.
I can’t imagine why I prefer condos and hotels now :laughing:

Last year we stayed in the condos on the golf course they were really nice and not to expensive, how many guys do you have going?
Are you going Scott?

Adam (TJ you met him), Alan (CO Hummer JK) and me from Colo. This started 6 years ago as a hummer thing so we will be hooking up with some Hummer friends from Moab, NorCal and a bunch of other places. The guy I know who lives in Moab cuts firewood for a living and has a huge really huge fire pit in his yard so we all hang out there at night and then retire to our comfy condos or hotel rooms :D

Well, my original plans have changed also.
I have a reservation at the Holiday Inn Express for April 8th and checking out on Easter (April 12th). I need to change my reservation for arriving on Tuesday the 7th and leaving on Friday.
I also planned on driving or towing out my JK and now I am going to use my TJ which is at my parents house in Mesquite, Nevada (only 6 hour away). It sucks but too much of a hassle to get my JK out there for only three days.
Looking forward to meeting some of you guys. Will you still accept me in a TJ?

It just so happens that I'm off work the week after EJS. I've only been to Moab twice and both times were during EJS. Way too crowded. Maybe if my Jeep is in one piece I'll come over and wheel with ya for a couple of days. It would be nice to meet you guys.

Alec,
Still working on getting the time off. Couple questions...
What days are you going?
Are you wheeling on the last day...what time do you plan to hit the road?
Where are you staying? (what area)
What trails do you plan on running?
What does the group look like at this point?
