MINNEOLA -- A man was killed Tuesday after his Jeep crashed into a lake off County Road 561A.
The Florida Highway Patrol said Casey Brecheen, 20, of Montverde, was behind the wheel of a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, when it rode the guardrail, flipped over, and crashed into the Crystal Cove Lake.
Crews pulled the vehicle out of the lake, but Brecheen did not survive the crash.
"I know deputies were first on scene, and tried to pull the driver out,” said FHP Sgt. Kim Miller. "Unfortunately, he had already died, but we can tell by the evidence on the bridge, on where the impact first occurred on the bridge, that he actually went down the side of the bridge railing, until he flipped in the water."
FHP is looking into the possibility of whether speeding, drugs or alcohol was involved.
Lake County engineers examined the damaged bridge. Officials said repairs will be made soon, but it is still safe enough to drive on the bridge.
