Hello, I just got the new '08 JK last week... a big difference from the '99 TJ I just sold.

I have two questions about the JK:

- I just noticed the new JK sits about an inch lower on the passender's side (yes, I measured it). The suspention is still stock. Has anyone experienced this?

- After just 150 miles the wheels are filthy. Are there any low dust brake pads avalible for the JK?

New brakes will show considerable dust (black- powder) and will accumulate on especially the front wheels. The brakes are fine...completely normal. After several hundred miles you will see less of the dust. Brake pads are just getting broken in. As to why it may be leaning to one side- Sounds as if you need to make sure that you are on a completely level surface. Put the jeep somewhere else (on the street/ in a parking lot) and check again. If it still looks like that then you may look around the shafts of the shocks on that side to make sure one of them isn't leaking fluid/ and that the shafts are not damaged. A damaged or bent shaft can cause fluid loss and subsequently slight lean. Also when checking the "lean" make sure that the wheels are pointed completely straight ahead. May also be a control arm out of adjustment. You may want to check them to see that all hardware has not loosened. The fuel tank is located on the passenger side, but even when full, I don't believe it would cause the vehicle to lean noticeably. You may also check to make sure that the swaybar is connected on both sides. Springs might be another possibility- if someone wheeled the jeep and really compressed that side severely- Doubtful.

See what some one else may recommend- as this is just an educated opinion. There may have been something that I am overlooking. Good luck.

everything he said and you may want to look at your upper shock mount brackets. it is shaped like a dog bone. i never had a problem with this in my first wrangler...but my 03x...i went through 3 of these. sucks because you have to by a mopar shock just to get that mount. if that is snapped, could cause a lean.

I have an '07 and it does the same. I thinks it's the fuel tank. The lean gets more noticable when I fill it up.

I have an 08 Unlimited and it had the lean before being lifted and it has it after being lifted.Mine is about 3/4 inch.

Really don't know. I'm like cousineddy. Have a 3" fooltraction lift and still leans. Not much, but more noticeable when the tank is full. This winter I'm pulling all the springs to check there hieght. But for now, other than adding a little character and being a conversation starter..."Hey did you know your Jeeps is leaning?" I haven't noticed any problems.

Yes this is due to the fuel tank on the passinger side.I put acos in the front to level it.

The JK is new with only 265 miles on the clock... it hasn't been off road yet. In the picture above, it was on a level driveway and the wheels where straight. Nothing looks bent, broke or leaking. With the fuel tank on the right side as I'm being told by some others (lifted and not lifted alike) that it is due to the fuel tank being entirely on the right side of the vehicle. On average, on a 72* day, one gallon of gas weighs 6.2 pounds. So 6.2 pounds x 18 gallons = 1,116 pounds on the right side. That's a big difference if you ask me with nothing on the other side to balance things out.

As for the brakes, my Chrysler Crossfire had very dirty OEM brakes. I put on Rotex Gold pads and the problem went away, so I was just wondering if other JK owners noticed the dust and changed their pads, and if so what kind and what brand.

You might wawnt to reclaculate the 6.2 X 18 thing. The correct answer is 111.6 lbs. Not enough to make any part of a jeep sag.

Maybe It's my perception, but it seems to be more pronounced with a full tank of full. For S&G's I'll wait till my tanks, empty, measure the jeep, fill the tank, and re-measure. I'll post my results

I was just searching for rear brake pads recently and noticed rockauto sells a ceramic pad. I don't remember the brand.

really? go throw a couple cases of water in the front seat you will see a huge LEAN from the water alone. 100 pounds will most certainly make the jeep lean

MY JK always leaned to the passenger side, before been lifted and after. Full or empty gas tank. I fixed it by using a 3/4" spacer at the rear on the passenger side.

Mine also leans to the passenger side, more so when the tank is full. Iíll probably do the same as PhilD and add a ĺ" spacer.

It didn't make much difference for me, about 1/4".

Could be because of the fuel tank and the fact that the right side is the torque down side of the motor.

Alot of Jeeps have this.. they call it the "Jeep Lean".

We thought that too, and to a certain extent you are correct.. but mine still leans with the both track bars disco'ed.

Your wheels are dirty from the crap the dealer puts on the tires the over spray gets on the wheels and the brake dust sticks to it. My Jeep also leans to the right unless I'm on a hill with the left side facing down hill :shaking:

The spacer will go between the spring and the upper spring seat, disconnect the rear sway bar both sides remove the right rear shock jack the frame only up you then should be able to insert the spacer. reverse

Now that's funny.

Mine used to lean to the passenger side a bit as well. All I can say is, I am glad I have those ACOS all around. The passenger rear is dialed out about 3/8" where the other 3 corners are fully compressed and she sits pretty good now. :D

I just need to find me some 40" tires to give me an excuse to dial them all out the 2" I have to spare :thefinger:

Over the past few years dealing with JK's on a regular basis, we have seen a few JK's lifted or not that have had a lean to one side or the other.

We have now come up with a solution that will help alleviate/basis the vehicle back to level.

Simply measure the swaybar links that you have on your vehicle from center hole to center hole. Purchase the length needed from our website. Install them and turn the linkage (gold hex bar in the middle) longer on the lower side of the vehicle. This will help bias the vehicles swaybar to compensate for the added side weight or whatever else is causing the leaning.

These can be used on the front and rear of the JK, with or with a lift kit. We offer linkage lengths from 5.5" - 15.9" in 1.4" adjustable lengths. These can be used on all JK Models (X, Sahara, Rubicon) but are not disconnectable.

The links are Heavy Duty 3/4" Solid Hex bar linkages, zinc plated with 1/2" studded teflon lined heim joints.

These can be used as heavy duty sway bar links.

This should only be used for vehicles that lean slightly. Severely leaning vehicles should check for other issues before installing.

the JKS's are adjustable. there are lots of adjustable links out there. the ones i got with my rockkrawler kit are adjustable (but i'm using the JKS quick disco's instead).

Depending on how much you have to adjust one side, you may have to cut one of them down a little, but should be okay without having to do that.

I'd be interested to see what it does to handling, as you will be loading the sway bar up. I imagine it will still be okay as the rear sway bar doesn't do as much work as the front.
