Big Thanks to your professional photographer. Unfortunately, I only got a few. I'll post up what i got a little later. Sorry you had to leave a little early, but we were out of there within an hour or so after that, and headed to the hot rod show...

Great pics Stub. Looks like you all had a great time. I really wanted to make this one, but once again youth sports put a stop to that. I would love to get out and meet everyone. Hopfully I will make one soon.

Great picks, to bad about the Toyota (hehe). Trails in Texas seem awful short, but really, really wide.
Question, the one jeep with the tire in the back. I run a similar setup, to get some weight off the back. How is the tire mounted?

Are you referring to the Silver Jeep with the tire in the back? If so, it looked like he just had it sitting back there, maybe I'm wrong, but I was behind him on one of the trails and it looked like it was bouncing around....:mr-t: I pity the fool that gets nailed by a tire when it bounces up front...

That's what I am wondering. I have mine secured to the floor, but I was wondering the way that the tire is sitting, did he have a rack of some sort. Usually when you see a tire upright like that it's bolted to the roll bar.

I didn't look to see if he had it secured. It may have been loosely secured, thus the movement I saw? He had all kinds of camping gear or something back there, so it was tough to see and I didn't look...

Texas has a lot of different types of venues from granite escarpments, to twisty tight trails, steep hill climbs, sand, etc...The trails at Walnut Creek are actually VERY tight. Through many areas of the ranch, you have to pull the side view mirrors inward or lose them. I actually slid into a tree this weekend on a tight off camber section and got to test out my AEV trail corners. We had to remove a rear tail light so that it wouldn't be destroyed.

I use a cross pattern with ratchet straps to hold the spare 35" in the back. They are attached to the brackets that originally secured the rear seat. We have no kids, so there was no reason to keep that seat back there, and I would hate for an adult to have to get in and out back there- especially with the top on. I also relocated it to get a little more weight over the rear axle and off of the back, but also to achieve a better approach and departure angle. I love being able to actually see out of my rear view mirror as well, which is next to impossible with a 35" tire mounted on the back.

I can post up some pics of the relocated spare if interested. I also have the cooler mounted on top of it using a custom made shelf that keeps it from sliding around.

Well, I didn't get crap for pics. It seemed that I was always stuck in the woods where I couldn't see, or forgot my camera in the Jeep when I walked up to see what was goin on. This is all I really got....

Hey Dave. Hope your hand is OK- Please stop b!tch slapping everyone! :D

It is the last "formal" run of the year that I know of. There are a couple other places open, or some closed events possibly, But none that are very close by. Some of these places close in the winter due to low attendance, cold weather, hunting season, etc.

In Texas (don't know about the "terminology" in other states)...A closed event is only open to specific groups or clubs. Open events are able to be attended by anyone and everyone regardless of individual, or affiliation.

This is what I found when I got outta the Jeep for a hold up. these trails are tight and twisty. Good place to test out your suspension..

I assumed he was talking about the Silver TJ

Yeah, If you look at the picture where my tire is off the ground, you will see a tree on the left. I had it cleared until I drove out and the jeep flexed the other way. Now I have a nice big dent in my rear drivers flare....need to figure out how to get those stupid little plastic retainers out so I can knock it back out...

Wow! You guys have some good friggin eye-sight. I just now see it and only barely. I believe that on that jeep, that what is holding it in place is the two tons of crap loaded into the jeep. I couldn't wheel like that. When Joe wanted a phillips head to remove my tail-light...I had him one in less than 10 seconds. When that new JK guy needed longer zip-ties to secure his swaybar...he had them in his hands in a matter of seconds. I think you are pretty organized also Kerry, from what I've seen. It makes everything just run much smoother and helps others that are trying to help out.

The white TJ 556NNG. I thought the tire was mounted someway, but it sounds like it was just stuffed in there. Hey Stu., I mount my spare the same way. It was if Jeep put the rear seat mounting points exactly where a 35" tire would go. Those brackets work great. But right now I am modifying a few stock scissor jacks (cannibilizing them for parts) to make a trick screw down tire mount. The straps (I use chains and a binder) work but I figure I can make a real trick screw down tire mount that will work a little better.

Joke told to me years ago from a Navy pilot about Marines (don't hold me personally responsible....I like Marines)
A Marine pilot was coming in for a landing. As he touched down he was forced to use full reverse thrust, full flaps, his air brakes, and smoke his tires to come to a stop. In just 100 feet, stopping just inches from the dirt. He says to his copilot "This has got to be the shortest runway that I have ever landed on!" His copilot looking out both sides of the aircraft at thousands of feet of tarmac replies, "And the widest!"
Now you see what I mean about your trail. I know that those were just flex opertunities.

That was funny- Picturing that bird sitting sideways on the long runway...lol.

Yea, that place is really tight. Not too bad for a TJ, but a little worse for the JK, and REALLY tight for the JK Unlimited. Joe had a hell of a time in a couple spots- Not that it was at all difficult for him, but time consuming in some of the sections. Suspensions were flexing like crazy. I wound up in a couple spots with one rear wheel and one front wheel touching as the jeep rocked back and forth. I even managed to scrape the draglink on the bottom of the frame rail on the pass side!

You HAVE to post some pics or a write-up on the screw-type tire hold down. That sounds like a really trick idea...And a good use for the (dangerous) OEM jack.
