Here is a video (bad) of my first run. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DcDKiFqYkfc) I had just purchased the video camera and this was my first editing project. It was so huge when I was done I could never post it on YouTube. I just found a program to compress it just enough to get it uploaded.
This trail is 1/4 mile from my front door and is a fun little diversion. The trail isn't hard but you can go to Virginia City via the way "Little Joe" would have gone and you can get a beer and a dog in VC and watch some interesting characters.
BTW, this is an excellent first run if anyone wants to come out and get their JK dirty. :bounce:

looks like fun. how's the trail this time of year? some snow might make it interesting.
10-17-2007, 09:57 AM
There is no snow on it right now. And the snow isn't the worst, its the clay when it's wet. Its slicker than owl shiat then hardens into concrete when it dries.
Here are some vids with a stock 4-door in a canyon just down from VC. Its called El Dorado Canyon and is a lot of fun and could be done in a stocker that is really careful or doesn't worry much about rocker panels.
When you say “a stocker can do it” do you mean an “X” or a stock Rubicon?

Well front and rear lockers would make it easier and a rear locker would be good but even an open 4x4 could make it, even if there was a little help from time to time. ;)

ok, so you wanna host a run there Michael?:D:beer:

Sure. Which one do you want to run or both?
Jumbo is two track, some slight off cambers. No real risk of body damage unless you don't pay attention (as is always the case). Depending on the route (there are tons) it could be pretty fast and on the way to El Dorado or it could be several hours with a stop at VC then back down the hill.
Here is A Google Earth of the Jumbo area. North is up. On the left is Washoe Valley and Washoe Lake, on the right is Virginia City. The range in the middle is all BLM/play ground.

Here is El Dorado Canyon. You can drive right on through to Minden or you can turn around. For El Dorado the rocks seem to just get bigger as you go and you can stay on the trail as much as possible or you can play in the creek bed which is nothing but rocks, rocks and more rocks.
Here is the North end of El Dorado.

The trail really gets fun about the middle bottom of the above picture and the in the trail just drops into the canyon.
Here is all of the trail as it goes from Dayton to Minden.

Hey Michael, the first part of this with the links to the videos (above the first picture) doesn't seem to be working. It'd be cool to see those vids as i'm really thinking of going up there. :)
10-23-2007, 11:37 AM
Ok Joe, give that a shot! I fixed the links.
Casey is LivingStill on here and is driving his stock JK Unlimited Rubicon. :bounce:
Peter is driving a slightly modified TJ.
Matt's is well a little modifed too.
I don't have any video of myself, Debbie said something about making sure she got everyone else and I was already through.... buka, buka.
Looking forward to you and Monty coming up!

Michael, i was thinking maybe in two weekends from now. how's that look for you?
10-26-2007, 07:11 PM
November 3rd? Sounds good to me.
November 11th is the brand new Cabela's in Reno sneak preview for invited members so not that weekend. I'll be busy spending money.
If not that weekend, maybe the weekend after. Then I probably won't be available again until December.
10-27-2007, 03:59 PM
