Well it was an adventure and a test of character.

Chromedome did fine. He had his father-in-law, Eroll and his dog, Bella, with him and he was driving back to SoCal, so he chose to take the less difficult lines which still proved to be plenty challanging. He made it through with a few bruises.

Me on the other hand, got my ass handed to me. I flopped the JK again, driver side, on one of the toughest spots , for my rig, on winch hill 1. Dented and scratched the passenger rear door when I used it as a rock slider. Busted a ujoint and couldn't slide the replacement axle shaft into the carrier because the splines on the shaft were bad, which put me in 3wheel drive. I had to hammer through and winch the rest of the way through committee crossing and out. I lost my phone, fought death wobble and grenaded my rear driveshaft on the drive home. Luckily, brought my spare drive shafts because I was going to Fordyce. We ran half the trail. It took 10 hours from start to finish. It should take 5 hours.

I left my house at 6:00am friday and got home at 3:30 am saturday.

Much thanks to Chromedome for working his ass off, helping me get the JK back on the rubber and removing the broken axle shaft. We were exhausted.

My wife wakes me up this morning and asks if I'm ok. She tells me a guy named Kenny found my phone as he ran over it with his trailer, at the trailhead. It didn't break. He's sending it Fedex. Thanks Kenny. ( Edit: Never got my phone back)

I have some vid and a couple pics. I'll post later.

Rob that really sucks I'm sorry we weren't there to help you with the driveshaft! Was is closer to sacto or livermore?
When we got home we decided we had a really great time! it just didn't seem that great some moments on the trail :bawling:. Fordyce doesn't let you rest, although it's not always technical it does require your complete attention all the time, very taxing mentally & physically. I had no camera and therfore no pics. sorry its up to you to post what you want folks to see :thefinger:. Thanks again for hosting this epic adventure! looking forward to the next one Barrett lake maybe.
BTW my front diff is leaking like a sieve!

I was 15min from home when the drive shaft exploded. 11:45pm. I finished at 2:45 pm. Your assessment of Fordyce is spot on. Makes the Con' seem like a sunday drive with the family. Next time we can finish the other three winch hills.

I have kitty litter under my rear diff. I just sealed it the night before our trip.

Going to the A's game today, I'll post what's worth watching when I get back.

Turned out to be a football score. We left to tailgate when the score was 9-1 Rangers. It ended up 16-7 or something like that. It was hot wasn't it.

My attempt at Winch Hill 1.
Leave it to a professional camera man, to frame the shot in the tree, at the beginning. Nice touch Chromedome. :smokin: For some reason, Chromedome said " shit" alot, on this trip. Not sure why ;)

Chromedome on Driveline Hill. The first obstacle, when you come in at the Eagle Lakes trailhead.

Some vids of the first water crossing. I think the creek is flowing at around 40cfs. Imagine 250 to 300cfs. I think it gets as fast as 500 cfs.

I was going to put this in the drunk thread. I still might do it. I'm holding the camera in my right hand and driving with my left hand. Not easy.

I didn't take many pics. After my flop and removing tha axle shaft, I quit taking vids and pics. The trail didn't get any easier after that.

There is a tree about 100ft away, on the passenger side. We took a tow strap and wrapped it around the tree, then attached a snatch block to the strap. Wrapped another tow strap around the jeep frame rail. From there, we ran the winch cable to the snatch block and then to the frame. When we got it back over, Chromedome held tension on the winch line and I drove out of it. :smokin:

Ouch, not as bad as I thought it'd be, other than the soft top rail is going to be a huge pita for someone to fix! I can't believe it didn't get your doors/windshield frame/cowl!

2:56 Chromie, “You don’t want to go too high, you’ll flop it”
2:59 Rob, “Yah, I know” Classic!!
4:36 Rob goes higher on the wall than I would EVER have the cajones to go …
4:37 …and pulls it off! (for now)
4:39 Where did this pointed rock come from and why is it throwing me back up the wall!
4:41 Chromedome. “Whoa!”
4:42 Tire comes up …
4:43 … and it’s all over. Flop #3

The way I see it Rob does a bang up job doing a spiderman on that wall, pulls it off, and then his trusted spotter only gives his one seconds notice before he lays it over. Chromie, it’s a good thing you do the camera thing for a living rather than spotting! :D Nice video work though!

Rob, after this run, I think you deserve to be Knighted. You wheel the bejeebees out of that thing and always come back for more! You’re amazing!
I don't know. Fix it, wheel it, break it, fix it , wheel it....:shaking:
Now for a name … how about Sir Carnage? And his mighty steed Flop-a-lot. :jeep1:

It was hard sitting at work on Friday, knowing you two were on the trail, only 30 minutes away, and not being able to get the day off to go with you. Now I’m sitting here thinking that maybe it was better being at work … NAH! A bad day wheelin’ is still better than a good day at work.

I wish I could have been along to help out. Man! what a long day! To bad you didn’t have your cell phone to call me for an extra hand.

Sorry about the damage Rob. You didn't get off as easy on this one as the first two, did you.

Chromedome, too bad we weren't able to hook up, it would have been fun to wheel with you again. Next time ...

I like the moniker Nate. To bad I can't change my screen name. "Flopsalot", a good name for my trusty steed. I just might replace the Rubicon decal.

I had that but when my slider came down on the boulder I thought I was going over. That wasn't the case. I hammered through, thinking my tires were facing down but they were up and then the front passenger tire got caught in that notch. Then my rear passenger tire started to climb. It was all over at that point. Damn if I won't try again. Looking to push our next Fordyce trip back one week to 10/16/10. You want to watch me try again? I guarantee I won't flop. I think. Come to think of it, I want to follow your line because you come out clean all the time.

Olegrock wants to go. He's a wildman. He'll probably walk it. :thefinger:

Oh, regarding Chromedome spotting. He told me that he couldn't video and spot at the same time although my wife can. I told him it was ok. My mistake.

Haha, famous last words.

Seems every time my spotter says hold that, I wanna take a picture... bad things happen afterward! But at least it was on film! Haha.
