Just wondering if anyone ever goes floating down the American River? Some friends and I do quite a few times every summer, we start at Sunrise Blvd and end at River Bend Park. I was just curious if you do a longer trip? If so, where to you start/end?

I went prospecting in the American river back in the mid eighties with my dad somewhere in northern CA. Not sure if thats the same part your talking about? If so I do not remember seeing another soul.....

You really can only start so far upstream, as there is a dam between folsom(city)and sunrise blvd, and further upstream of the dam, you run into folsom prison.

I'm definitely down to tag along, all I have is my Kayak.

We park one vehicle at River Bend Park and one at Sunrise, or they run a shuttle back to Sunrise.

Will it be healed by August 8th?

I'm afraid not... :shaking: I have another four weeks (at least) of crutches, and maybe more.

I see about an average of 10 kayaks per trip. We usually go in rafts but next weekend we are thinking about using inner tubes.

Well, if you go all the way to the Watt landing, it's about 200 yards from my place, and there is plenty of parking at the Big Lots across the street from the park/boat ramp. (big lots=free, park=5 per boat, 3 per car)

I'd definitely be down if I can get a ride to the launch, either to start, or afterwards. I'm sure someone would be willing. :beer:

We are about 90% sure we are going on Sunday and not Saturday. If you meet us at this parking lot when we drop one vehicle off you can catch a ride with us or we can give you a ride back to Sunrise after.

I've been down the river many years back on tubes-many fun times, but haven't been in the last 10yrs. We also used to pan for gold up north of Auburn, in the outskirts off the road to Cool. A friend of the family found a 5ounce nugget, all we could get was flakes of 'fools gold'. Got my first buzz up there, brings a tear to me eye:beer:

I do this every year in August. This year I was passed out in the Raft for about an hour and completely missed Mud Island.... hittin' the Mai Tai's a little too hard

Me and some buddies are self taught white water kayak/rafting adventurists. No guides here :grinpimp:

The crazy part is that we are runnin the same type boulders on the Rubicon but basicly in the water with hydrodynamics kicking in.

I dont know if i would do too much drinking before going down the rapids. If you do good luck and i hope you can swim. Stacy and i go about once a year, and we have upgraded from kayaks to Super Puma rafts now. Below is a pick of when i went down in a kayak.

Ok for the guys and gals that choose to take it one step beyond the booze cruise and want to do it up "Cutts Crew Style " This is my good buddies shin bone on day #2 of the Gorge. This happened at a place called bouncing rock.

They name these rapids for a reason. This is the price he paid for getting tossed.

We had a lot of fun last time, I think we're gonna go back this weekend (but with no apple pie :laughing:)

Our annual trip ("Billy's Floating Liver Adventure") is this weekend too. We'll be launching around 10AM and will be impossible to miss, as we typically have two bus-loads of people tied together into one mega-raft.

Saturday or Sunday? We had 2 six man rafts and there were about 10 of us on the last trip.

We're going out on Saturday, as we'll need Sunday reserved for hangovers. We will have a raft completely filled with Ice/Beer. Last time we had a gasoline-powered squirtgun :)

What's the fun in that! We would keep the engine off, let people get in close, bait them into firing first, then nuke them. At 9000 gallons an hour people went from dry to completely waterlogged almost instantly. We had mercy on people without squirtguns.... but one water balloon or super soaker our way and it was game on.
