That almost seems like a reasonable price :D

reasonable until you add in the price for the tranny and engine. Now your back in the 14K range minimum and that is if you find one from a wreck.

Check Ebay or a local wrecking yard, used engines/trannies can be picked up for $3000-$3500

Hard to come by a 2007 or newer. I believe this is required to make it street legal also. I searched around and there are allot of 2004 and 2005 engines. I beleive the durango or other dodge truck is the best bet. Appears to be varying versions of the engine, carb, MDI etc... Anyone know the correct engine and tranny that should be targeted? Am I correct in looking for a engine from a durango? Only issue is I have the 6 spd now so it makes it even harder to find.

Hmm. Burnsville is starting to look like a deal for $19k w/ brand new engine and transmission, plus all the labor =)

Dude the ram/Durango engines wont work:pissed:
Something about accessory pulleys. And I convinced my bro he needs a new work truck and give me his 07 Ram 2500 5.7 hemi and tranny

It depends on what state you are in. In Texas, all that is required is that it will pass emissions testing... If your county even requires testing.

SO realistically I could be in it for less than 10K doing it myself with a used motor and tranny. I see complete motors going for around $2500 with all accessories.

From my understanding, any late model hemi will work, but the ones from the cars are a little friendlier for the conversion.

This is a quote from Dave at AEVforum.

The kit is NOT set up for the Dodge Ram and Durango versions of the 5.7 with the different front accessory drive and intake location.

I wish it wern't so......

That does narrow the choices down :(

So is it just the dodge trucks? What about the grand cherokee and the commander?

I reccomend car or Grand because the fit is cleaner.

are the front ends on a car the same as on the Grand and Commander?

I would assume AEV recommends the Grand and Commander because of the class of vehicle. The DOT is a little mixed up on this whole issue.

Yes they are. I used a crate LX motor for my swap and it worked great with the AEV kit

Man I wish I had an extra $3,500 laying around to do this!!:bawling:

Have they dynoed any of the swaps they've done so far? How much HP and torque do you think you can get to the wheels with that engine?

I have absolutely no idea but if I was forced to guess, a little less than 300HP and a little under 350 lb-ft of torque

Usually you run the automatic that came with the hemi. I think 45RFE. Off the top of my head.

Check out this link. Not sure what tranny they are using, but they do mention the 5.7L with a manual.
