Ok a question for folks with power door locks.

I just installed the tuffy secruity enclosure and locked the rear with the key and noticed if I open the front door and hit the electronic switch to unlock the rear tailgate just unlocks. Is there a way to turn it off? It's kind of unsecure in a senario of a breakin. All the idiot would need to do is open the door and hit the electronic (unlock) switch.

Short of disconnecting the tailgate power lock theres no way around that.
Brings the suck big time....

yup, I'd say unplugging the actuator in the tailgate is about the only way you're gonna fix that

I hope you realized that before you bought the deck enclosure

but really its easy fix if you are that worried about it just unplug the tailgate power.

I dont have to worry about that with my tuffy drawer :grinpimp:

Thieves are also generally stooooooopid so the chance of them figuring that out are slim, but it could happen. Cant imagine having to use the damn key to open the tailgate all the time!

I'll just unplug it, just thought tuffy would of disclosed that. I actually asked the vendor I bought it from and he thought there was a way to turn off the rear tailgate. I should of spent more time investigating but always thought the backup plan of unplugging would be plan B. I guess Plan b will be needed.

Hey it could be worse, you could have to release a ratchet strap first everytime

as far as the power thing I thought everyone would have realized hitting the unlock would still unlock it  I think you relied on Jeep being to smart and making a option to turn off the tailgate

If buy chance you take the actuator out, i am in need of one. Let me know if we can work something out.

If you lock the Jeep using the electornic key fob, the power locks are disabled after about 20 seconds. Even if someone tries to unlock the tailgate using the switch in the vehicle it will not work, they have to unlock using the key or key fob.

I'll give it a shot again tonight. I need to further test. I read elsewhere that after 30 seconds it is disabled so maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Yup, they disable. I've checked. Another option would be to remove the doors since they have the door lock switch. :D

key = not a big deal for me. It would be nice to have the electronic door lock only with the remote but not necessary as I don't go back there enough to worry about it.

im sure you'll live.:laughing:One does get addicted to the creature comforts. I used the key in the driver's door once (I think) in 2 1/2 years.

FWIW every other vehicle I own has roll down windows and manual locks.

Wouldn't your doors be locked preventing access to the switch anyhow?

not when the top is off.

although at that point the doors should be off too...which as someone pointed out would remove the switch

I don't take the doors off to often since I have little ones and they tend to loose stuff out the windows never midn the door. I have had the fronts off but looks kind of silly with just the fronts off.

In the summer I usually have the soft top on so I just leave the doors unlock to prevent a potential thief from trying to cut the top.

That was my thought

If you have full doors there isn't much point in a thief cutting the top when you can unzip the side windows though. Half doors would be different(had my drivers side window cut).
