: Moab pics over Memorial Day weekend
Alec W 05-26-2008, 06:39 PM Alan (CO Hummer) and I went to Moab for the holiday weekend with our JKs. We ran Strike Ravine, Hell's Revenge, some of Rusty Nail and Pritchett Canyon.
Strike Ravine was funny because it ends in BFE and there was some Hippy concert weekend thing going on. We had to spot each other between all the stupid hippy tents to find a way out to 191.
We tried Rusty Nail and wimped out at the first obstacle (I think it’s called Riff Raff). In retrospect having run Pritchett the next day it was probably easy and we should have gone for it.
After bailing Rusty Nail we ran Hell Revenge to see what it was like in a Jeep vs. out old H2s. What used to take all day too about an hour :)
Pritchett is insane, just insane! I thought I knew how to wheel but now I have a whole new respect for trail ratings. We made it through with no real damage and didn’t winch or bypass anything (other than the rock pile), but several times I was ready to turn round. After Rocker Knocker I thought it was going to get easy, WRONG. I think I only kept going because I really didn’t want to drive back down that sucker.
Some pics in no particular order.

luigi0523 05-26-2008, 06:49 PM :smokin: Looks like ya had fun out there, Alec.
Alec W 05-26-2008, 07:22 PM Something funny from this weekend was CO Hummer’s sway bar disco. A Rubicon is a waste for him since he forgot to disco it on Pritchett. Kinda explains why he got so tippy at times :laughing::laughing:
awesome pics, I can't wait to go back to moab. I don't think I'll be running Pritchett anytime soon tho. :shaking:
WTF_LOL 05-26-2008, 08:00 PM Awesome pics Alec! Wish I could have made it. looks like your rails got a little workout, how did the new half tank skids do?
a plumber 05-26-2008, 08:10 PM Looks like you guys had fun, I am glad to see you got everything back in working order. Did you have any mechanical issues on any of the Jeeps? Glad to see you guys had fun! We need to go grab a beer and hear the stories!
WTF_LOL 05-26-2008, 08:13 PM Did you have any mechanical issues on any of the Jeeps?
Cracks me up that his Jeeps surviovs Moab yet blows transercases going to the mall,:thefinger::beer:

My Jeep is not mall rated I guess. I pounded on the darn thing on Pritchett and it’s fine, but the bloody thing won’t let me drive it on the highway. Go figure :shaking::laughing::laughing:
CO Hummer 05-27-2008, 06:34 AM Great pics Alec!! Thanks for the doing that. I'll post some of mine up soon.
Nothing broke on the trail or the highway - an excellent trip. I do have a leaky axle seal which, I think, was caused by the guys who did my re-gearing.
CO Hummer 05-27-2008, 06:37 AM how did the new half tank skids do?
Funny enough - Now we have the new skids on, we hardly hit them this trip.
I did have a few scratches and some minor bending along one of the edges of it. But they are solid, not gonna allow any tank damage.

CO Hummer 05-27-2008, 09:49 AM Alec's pretty much nailed the trip and I didn't post a lot of pics, but here are a few more. I have more pics of Alec than my own Jeep!
Here's Alec and family. Yes, at first you think it's just a picture of my awesome Jeep. But look on the mountain where those three are running around chasing their new puppy up the hill. :D

Well, thats good to hear. Either way, sounds like all that is left now is working out how much it will cost me to have one of those made :D ;)

lol, "Whiskey and weldin"!!!
I imagine now that you guys made two, a third one would probably go pretty fast! I am willing to pay in :beer:payments or money payments for one!

We could make a swap. I may need some help putting and axle seal in........ ;) :D

Wow, I thought I was the only one who did that :shaking: :D. I am seriously considering installing real disconnects for that very reason.
Glad to here you guys made it! We ran Metal Masher on Friday and the Spike on Saturday. We missed the weather both days. I had some friends who ran Pritchett on Friday and got rained on all day! Looks like you guys avoided the weather as well. The first obstacle on the Nail looks pretty bad but the bypass and the rest of the trail isn't as bad, if you don't mind the pucker factor. That being said, some other friends of mine broke pretty hard on the Nail on Saturday. So how bad was Rocker Knocker? That is the obstacle on Pritchett that I am the most nervous of in the JK for fear of body damage!
Thanks for the pictures!

It was the second part of the first obstacle at the top that freaked me out.
We watch a TJ almost roll and then watch that group winch a JK up it. In retrospect we should have gone for it anyways. I’m ok with pucker factor and that “no left turn” obstacle doesn’t look like the type of thing that bothers me that much.
There’s always next time.

IMO Rocker Knocker isn't nearly as intimidating as Axle Hill or the Rock Pile (which is actually the old bypass, but the main trail now).
I had some pucker factor on Rocker though since I was really tippy going through it. But I think that was because I was such an idiot and didn't push the stupid button to disconnect the sway bar. Other than a roll-over there isn't really any risk to body damage, assuming you have at least the Rubi rock rails to protect your driver's side. You'd be hurting without rails.
Nice pics, looks like fun!

Is Axle Hill the one near Rock Pile, after Rocker Knocker? If it's the one I am thinking of, that one puckers me too in the TJ! I do not have have the Rubi rock rails on anymore. I upgraded to the Polys as soon as they were available :D

Yeah, Axle Hill is between Rocker Knocker and the Rock Pile. I’m not sure it’s harder but it’s more intimidating for sure. So much so CO winched himself before even trying to drive up it :thefinger:

Yup. When I looked at that obstacle I thought "no way I can make it up this thing" and hooked up th winch right off the bat. It looked to me like you couldn't get traction to get over the second hump without 44" tires. :D Alec was ready with his winch, but just went for it. I about crapped my pants when he was able to work it all the way to the top unassisted. Next time I will definitely go without the winch. I really learned what the JK with that long wheelbase could do that day (when it's driven right). Friggin awesome rig!

It is quite a change for me too. I have to admit I had to be strapped on an obstacle on Gold Bar Rim. I dropped off a ledge and got high centered . I have a long arm kit installed on it and the brackets really hang down, so I get hung up!
