View Full Version : throw-out-bearing? Clutch?

I think my throw-out-bearing is the culprit of making all the squealing noise all of a sudden. I have 70k plus miles on my 6 speed jk. We have had a lot of rain here lately and I may have been driving through some larger than normal puddles:shaking:.....enough to want a snorkel:)

I have heard some horror stories about life of clutch and/or throw-out-bearing problems....so I have a couple of questions...
1. if you were going to replace throw-out-bearing would you do clutch at the same time (70k miles but no problems with clutch that I know of)
2. would you go with stock clutch or aftermarket? I see hitmoney went with the spec clutch and some others the centerforce (now that it is available)
3. are there any other parts that should be replaced or dealt with while tranny is out? (that might cause future issues)
4. Other than squeeling is there any additional damage that could be incurred? and can you do anything about the squeeling other than replace?

sorry for all the rookie questions....

Don't sweat the questions...

If you are gonna open the clutch assembly, in my opinion, change it all. And if you wheel I would go aftermarket. As long as your trans engages the gears ok and there is no problems working the clutch, the TOB squeal is harmless. And keep in mind there is no aftermarket TOB available.

For the record Ive had my TOB replace 3 times and now have trans problems (unrelated) and sinc they are changing the TOB again, I'm having a CEnterforce clutch kit installed while it's open

As soon as my clutch arrives, and it's installed I will definitely be posting up a review

Not true - from what I hear, unlike the centerforce clutch, SPEC (http://www.specclutch.com/cars/Jeep/CJ_DJ_Wrangler/2008/Single) makes an aftermarket clutch that includes a replacement TOB

Edit: I got this info from here (http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f96/lets-fix-jk-throw-out-bearing-issue-867949/index4.html#post8171992). Maybe you can try to contact the poster and see if he ever got it installed.

Hitmoney - can you confirm this? And if so, is the TOB better or same as stock?

x2... when talking to both spec and centerforce they told me the stock tob was the only one available
