: My New POLY PERFORMANCE BUMPERS

I picked up my rig today, prior to heading out to MOAB. The prototype bumpers have been replaced with production versions, and to no surprise these are awesome. Top quality, and SOLID. The production versions have some nicechanges, a third brake ligt (center of spare) lic plate mount with light and the tire mount is now adjustable for different offsets.

The front is just as awesome. My new powerplant fits perfect with access to all points. In addition. Poly Performance has incorperated the fog lights (from my factory bumper) which is a nice feature. The powder coat is great. I cant say enough about the qaulity of this stuff. Thanks again Poly!

When I spoke to Drew and Dave, I got the impression these are available within the next 2-3 weeks. Hope to see a few of you at MOAB, I know Poly will have a booth there at the vendor show, hence, they will have all the inof you need.

How come you have one and I don't? bastard

BTW, your jeep lokos great with the two together!

I already have the Shrockworks stubby before I knew about this bumper.

Anyway, is there space between the tire and the lower part of the swing away to mount a hi-lift horizontal?

lbh
03-16-2008, 04:14 PM
Ha! Did I mention that they are REALLY nice? I do think you could work a Hi-Lift in the area you mentioned. Your wait should not be much longer, they are really close, like I said these are production units.

Looks great! Does the tire carrier lock in the open position by chance? Any rattling?

lbh
03-16-2008, 09:26 PM
The tire carrier does lock in open position and there are absolutely no rattles. I am serious when I speak of the quality of this company, there is no bias here, these things are solid and well built. I have run Warn, Jeeperman, etc, and these take the prize hands down. The rear is very smooth in opening etc. The hinge mount is the size of a Dana 44 hub! I am very pleased that I went with this set up. Let me know if I can get any specifc shots for you.

Look again. The production units feature a spring loaded pin similar to the one that operates the latch mechanism. It allows the tire carrier to be locked in the open position.

Crap! PIG is absolutley right (as he should be)!!!! The bumper does indeed lock in open position! Even better. Yes, the bumper has a nice latch that allows the bumper to remain secure. This thing just gets better and better the more I look at it!

Those bumpers look nice! Wondering, though, arent the fog lights susceptable to damage? They look kind of exposed around the housing and the wire harness.

05-30-2008, 10:31 PM
Im not quite sold on how those bumpers look. I guess it's because I've never seen so many holes in a bumper before, or maybe it's something else. I just cant put my finger on it.

lbh
05-31-2008, 12:13 AM
I have had these for a month, and really can't say enough, worth every penny. As for the fog lights being exposed, actually they are recessed a bit, and completely protected by objects, more so than those mounted on top of the bumper etc.

I like the rear the best, it is really simple to open and shut. The third brake light is nice, the locking latch comes in really handy, and the overall product is top notch. Further, I may sound biased, but give poly a call and see just how dedicated they are to customer service---this ought to sell a lot of us compared to some of the crap that is out there. let me know if want pictures of a certain area.

Been working on getting the price and weight down, here is the most current version, eliminated the bottom tube for more clearance and to make it easier to make. This is 50 lbs without the tire carrier, probable close to 100 lbs with the tire carrier. Also eliminated the receiver hitch, you can use the stock one or run it without one. You could install the stock receiver hitch in about 5 mins if you wanted to tow something with it.

You cut off the crash bar and they bolt to the bumper, frame brackets and the sway bar bolt. You dont have to use them with our bumper but you will have to figure out what to bolt it to in the front. What bumper do you have?

There’s a lot I appreciate about these bumpers. I like that Poly understands that a bumper can be both strong and light (something a LOT of companies have trouble understanding). I like the apparent build and materials quality. I like that they put the effort into an awesome tire carrier (another thing many companies have a lot of trouble creating). I like the ‘just enough to get the job done well and no more’ approach.

The only things I don’t like…the top tube of the rear bumper is not recessed as on many other bumpers. In CO, we seem to spend a lot of time backing up on narrow trails, often on a shelf road with a nice drop-off on one side. Rear visibility is very important – without a recess, the tire sits higher and compromises visibility. I like being able to drop it a few more inches into a recess. The other thing is price. I know you get what you pay for – I have Poly Stage 3 kit, skids, and sliders and the quality is stupid good, so I know there’s none better – but all said and done its $2500+ for the front and rear bumpers and accessories. Ouch!

Nice though, that’s for sure.
