Anyone done any real training? I'm going to Front Sight in Parump NV next week for a 4 day handgun course. I've had lots of training before, but none other then a few range days in 3 years.

Is it disturbing that my idea of a "vacation" is 4 days in the NV desert in Sept, shooting guns all day? :D

Not disturbing in the least. If you've only ever range fired and are dropping the ching on a big training event like this, take full advantage of the opportunity and forget everything you ever "thought you knew" about shooting.

Often the hardest part of learning something new is in the letting go of what you know.

I'm a member there. A few of us will be there soon taking another 2 day class. I think there instructors do a great job. We are headed out again next month to take carbine course... I'm really looking forward to that one.:bounce:

PS - It's gonna be HOT.:)

Besides IDPA (http://www.idpa.com/), military and law enforcement I was lucky enough to go to Thunder Ranch (http://www.thunderranchinc.com/) back when they were in Texas - had a kick ass time, loved every minute of it!

not bad advice....

And I still want to go to Gunsite (http://www.gunsite.com/index.html)!!!

And since it is on subject - LilRed posted a kick ass link to a great read over on the MJ forum (I believe) take a few minutes and read it..... lots of wolves out there...

I've had the CA Police academy, but that was 3 years ago. I already forgot most the good stuff.

The range is great. I spend a good 6 hours every other week on the range right now with my department. You can learn a lot just by listening to instructors teach/perfect other people so pay attention!

Like others said take in everything that you can. I thank all of you tax payers that paid me to learn a thing or three. I will say I had been shooting for a long time before I went through the academy and one of the hardest things I came up against was proper grip. It's really hard to retrain your mind.
