I had a thought for the storage bin cover in the rear. My thought was to cover it in fiberglass resin and then sand it a bit and have it sprayed with bedliner. any thoughts?

I made a custom cover for my 2 door that covered the whole back with the seats out. I did mine with plywood and a steel frame bolted to the rear wheel well, oversprayed with bedliner. It looked great but I had to take it out to put the back seat back in. If you have a soft top just make sure that you leave enough room on the side for the bows to fold down. Going to do another cover to fit behind the rear seat.

Sorry but I never had a close up pic of mine. I had to take it out to put the back seat in for a flag day parade. The one Dewayne made looks good and i like the three piece design. Mine was one solid piece and I had to remove the soundbar to angle it in but once in noone was getting it out. I am curious about how the soft top bows lay down on your design Dewayne. If you have a pic of that please post it. I may redo mind to make it easier to install, take out. I also think spraying it with bedliner would be a better option than carpet next time.

tuffy makes metal locking one but you could make one and it should look good if you spray it with bedliner

I'm not sure any of the replies actually understood your original post. And I must admit it took me a couple of reads before I actually understood your posted question. Problem is, I do not have an answer because for right now carpet is okay with me.

when makeing freeform fiberglass enclosures you use fleece and similar poly materials that are made of essentially the same components chemically as epoxy resin. the carpet seems to be mostly poly and would most likely take the resin quite well. after hardening i would rough sand it down quite a bit and have it bed lined. being a much less expensive alternative to the tuffy box and a cleaner look too.
