So I went to jack up the back of my pretty-darn-new Rubi and found my existing jack woefully inadequate. Barely got the rear tire an inch off the ground. I need the axle to droop fully even after I remove the shocks...
So I went out and bought a 3-ton floor jack with a fully extended height of 18" and change. My guess is, although I needed a new jack anyway, 18" ain't gonna cut it either, at least not on the axle tube in the rear.
I've seen plenty of guys put the jack plate on the pumpkin and lift the vehicle that way, but for some reason it makes me a bit nervous. Is this okay or is there any harm in this? Anything I need to be concerned about?

Police arrested Malcolm Davidson, a 27-year-old male, in a pumpkin patch. Davidson will be charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, public indecency, and public intoxication at the county courthouse. From the county courthouse jail, Davidson stated that he pulled over to the side of the road, picked out a pumpkin he felt was appropriate to his purposes, cut a hole in it, and proceeded to satisfy his "need." In the process, Davidson apparently failed to notice the municipal police car approaching and was unaware of his audience until officer Brenda Taylor approached him.:laughing2:
Said officer Taylor, "I just went up and asked, 'Excuse me, sir, but do you realize you are screwing a pumpkin?' He got real surprised, as you'd expect, and then looked me straight in the face and said, "A pumpkin? Damn...is it midnight already?"

It's fine. I mean, of course there are better places to lift from, but using a diff is fine.

I need the axle to droop fully even after I remove the shocks...In which case what you need to do is jack the vehicle up and put the frame on jack stands, then when you lower the axle the springs/shocks will droop. 6 ton jack stands are better for this as they are taller than the 3 ton ones.
So I went out and bought a 3-ton floor jack with a fully extended height of 18" and change. My guess is, although I needed a new jack anyway, 18" ain't gonna cut it either, at least not on the axle tube in the rear.Apart from when lifting the frame, 18" should be okay.
FWIW I use two 3.5 ton Michelin Speedy Lift jacks which have a max lift of 22" and with 6" of lift and 40's they will lift anything I need lifting plenty high enough. You can usually pick them up at Sam's Club for $70 or so and they work very well, very fast to raise and no effort required.
I've seen plenty of guys put the jack plate on the pumpkin and lift the vehicle that way, but for some reason it makes me a bit nervous. Is this okay or is there any harm in this? Anything I need to be concerned about? It's fine, but just be careful, especially if the frame is not on jack stands. For anything more than rotating the tires I like to have some jack stands under something, the 3 ton ones work best under the axle, 6 ton ones for the frame.

Pumpkin f u c k e r!
Story time...
I went to a hippy festival once that takes place every year in october. All the hippies carve pumpkins and the woods get all freaky looking at night when the acid kicks in appropriately.
Well, this one year I was tired of the same ol same ol (and I am a DAMN good pumpkin carver). So I carved a neat demon on one side of the pumpkin, a witch on the other, all sorts of scary faces all intertwined, and one side Read: "Die You Hippie Scum!"
Hippies dont have the best sense of humor.
At one point, I s h i t you not, a cop showed up at my campsite and said "I hate to say this, but these hippies are driving me nuts, can you turn that pumpkin off?" I laughed and did it.
For about 10 minutes.
I got a lot of "f u c k you too(s)!" and had a good time watching people get so bent out of shape out of something so silly. Finally, the beer got the best of me and I went to bed.
When I woke up the next morning, the pumpkin was gone. I was PISSED! I had spent HOURS carving that thing. I started ranting and raving and finally some girl camped near us comped to having gotten rid of it "for the sake of everyone involved!"
I was livid. She said the pumpkin was in a guy's car and motioned towards the car. I knew the car - was a guy I knew as one of those friend of a friend type deals. So I go over to the car and look inside and he's in the car passed out, w/ his dick hanging out of pants, and the pumpkin in his lap.
I was no longer pissed - I was laughing. Turns out the girl knew him as well and when he passed out in his car (hippies and drugs = pass out), apparently she wasnt happy about her sexual prospects not working out for the evening. So she put the pumpkin in his lap, pulled out his dick, and took pictures.
When the dude woke up to us pointing and laughing and calling him "pumpkin F u c k e r", he was about as pissed and unhappy as I had been earlier. The rest of the weekend the guy slowly became "Pumpkin F u c k e r." Everyone started calling him that.
To this day (years later), his nickname is Pumpkin. He hates it, but everyone calls him that.
So yes, you can jack a pumpkin. But the owner might come looking for it and you might wind up w/ a new nickname if you do.

So i guess it turns out that it is okay to jack on the pumpkin, around the pumpkin, on top of the pumpkin, on the sides of the pumpkin, inside the pumpkin...:thefinger::thefinger:
But, to the others...yeah, I'll be supporting the frame with 6-ton jack stands, just need to get the rear end high to take care of business first (yes, I set that up on purpose for you jokers).:grinpimp:
Well, as long as no harm is done, guess it's a go.

Gosh, as many times as I've drug mine over the rocks, seems a little jacking should not hurt it much. Just be sure to check the level when your done. To much fluid can cause the seals to blow... I mean leak....
