: The torque converter effect on gear ratio.

This has come up quite a bit in the past. I don't know the answer to this one and maybe someone else does.

What effect does the torque converter play in calculating our gear ratio? Can or does after market torque converters change this effect?

As an example in calculating your gear ratio you multiply the tranny gear x transfer case x axle ratio. On a manual transmission this is pretty straight forward. The automatic isn't quite as cut and dry. So what is the number one should use in the above formula to get a fairly accurate result? Where would someone find this number for different converters?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Michael,

I have heard that it effectively doubles your crawl ratio. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than us will chime in with a more technical answer.
